Junior Zombro Obituary

MAROA - Junior A. Zombro, 82, of Maroa died 2:45 p.m. Sunday (Dec. 4, 2005) in his home. Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, Maroa Cemetery, with military rites and Ron Rector officiating. There will be no visitation. Calvert Funeral Home, Maroa, is in charge of arrangements. Memorials: Maroa American Legion, Maroa Women's Auxiliary or Maroa Public Library. Junior was born March 22, 1923, in Peoria, the son of Clifford Zombro and Clara Schoch. He was a World War II Army veteran. He retired from Caterpillar Inc. in 1981 after 40 years. He was an active member of American Legion and served as adjacent-secretary. He was an avid Chicago Cubs fan and enjoyed bowling with the retired CAT buddies before his accident in December 2004. He married Mary F. Pence Martin on Jan. 30, 1951, in Peoria. She passed away July 26, 2002. Surviving are his sons, Bill (Brenda F.) Zombro and Mike Zombro, both of Maroa; former daughter-in-law, Brenda S. Zombro of Maroa; grandchildren, Desiree (Chris), Jamie, Billi (Jason) and Chelsea (Jason), all of Maroa; Jeremy of Decatur; stepchildren, Dianna, Jack and Steve; great-grandchildren, Parker, Zoee, Reece, Bailee, unborn great-grandson; sister, Bern Mathus of Peoria; 10 step-grandchildren; numerous great-stepgrandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and four sisters. The family would like to thank each health care professional who has been involved in Junior's care the past year. Grandpa has been called above where every angel sings. He can only sing off-key but still has earned his wings. For he's an ornery Cubs fan and has been from the start. Each game they play, home or away is where you'll find his heart! Grandpa has been called above where angels soar on high. He is waiting patiently for wings so he can fly. 'Cause spring will be here shortly and he's put in place a plan … to fly right down to Wrigley ground and lead the caravan! Online guest book at www.legacy.com/herald-review/LegacyHome.asp

I never knew Junior, but I have been friends with his granddaughter, Billi, for nearly 20 years. My heart goes out to all of the family at this difficult time.
