Kermit Stokes Obituary

FORSYTH - Remembering the life of Army Veteran, Kermit Louis Stokes, Sr., 63, of Forsyth, Illinois. Kermit, 63, went to be with his Lord and Savior peacefully, surrounded by his family on April 12, 2012 Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday April 16, 2012, in Seitz Funeral Home, Assumption. Visitation will be from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m., Sunday also in the funeral home. Burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery with Full Military Honors. Gifts in his memory may be made to Good Samaritan Inn of Decatur. Kermit was born in Rockford, Illinois on February 15, 1949, son of Kermit Washington and Gertrude Elizabeth Walker Stokes. Kermit married Lori Lyn Aldrich on October 2, 1993. Kermit graduated from Assumption High School and proudly served his country in the Army from 1967-1970. He retired from Bridgestone Firestone after 30 years of service. After retirement, he enjoyed volunteering in the community. Kermit was an avid Cubs and Bears fan. If there was a game on you could be sure Kermit was watching. He enjoyed cooking and grilling and loved to share his special additions to recipes that gave everything he made a taste of heaven. He was extremely proud of all his children and grandchildren and everything they did. He especially took pride in watching Sade play high school softball, never missing a game. Kermit is survived by his wife Lori, son Kermit Louis, Jr. of Jacksonville; daughters Michelle Dawn and husband Matt Rigg of Decatur, and Sara Margaret Stokes of Forsyth; grandchildren Trevor, Travis and Gracie Rigg; sisters Carol and husband Lyle Giles of Assumption, Tammy and husband Patrick Cardwell of Gardner; brother Roger and wife Loretta Stokes of Mattoon. He will also be remembered fondly by many nieces, nephews, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law. Kermit enjoyed being part of their lives and had many wonderful memories of family events. Kermit is preceded in death by his parents and three brothers: John, Gregory and Robert Stokes. The family would like to give special thanks to all of the caring and compassionate staff at DMH's ICU West. Seitz Funeral Home, Assumption has been entrusted with care and service arrangements.
