Abdul Agha Obituary

Abdul S. Agha, MD

July 1, 1939 - October 19, 2023

Miami, Florida - Dr. Abdul S. Agha, 84, died on October 19, 2023 in Miami, Florida. For several years, he struggled courageously with advanced Parkinson's Disease. In the end, he succumbed to a serious infection. He was born on December 21, 1939, in Najaf, Iraq. A graduate of Baghdad Medical School, he immigrated to New Orleans in 1966, where he completed his internship and residency. In 1968, he moved to Miami, Florida, where he met his future wife, Dr. Ildiko Sotlész Agha. What began as a professional difference of opinion over treating a patient became a fifty-three-year marriage. Abdul was board-certified in Cardiology, Internal Medicine, and Echo Cardiography. He was particularly interested in transesophageal echocardiograms. He practiced in several local hospitals, including Coral Gables, South Miami, Baptist, and Doctor's. In private practice for over forty-five years, he was known as an exceptional diagnostician and for his attentive and caring bedside manner.

Abdul was an avid tennis player, playing three to five times a week. He cherished sharing breakfast and conversation with his tennis partners after a game. On any given weekend morning, you could find them at a local eatery laughing, discussing the latest medical advances, or sharing family news. He deeply appreciated the outdoors, giving tours of "his" fruit trees in the backyard, playing fetch with the family dogs, scuba diving with family in the Florida Keys, and picnicking in the Everglades. Joining in his wife, Ildiko's passion for ballroom dance, Abdul was often found on the dance floor and hosting large tables of friends at dance events. Abdul enjoyed cooking Middle Eastern dishes, hosting gatherings, and sharing baklava. He had a sly sense of humor, an unforgettable laugh, and a knack for telling stories. Friends and loved ones remember how he made everyone feel like family.

Abdul is survived by his wife, Dr. Ildiko Sotlész Agha, three children, Michael Agha, Ari Agha and spouse Kimberly Williams, Andrea Agha and spouse Leslie Walker, and four grandchildren: Alejandra Agha, Andres Agha, Seth Walker, and Satya Walker, and a large and loving family in Iraq, Iran, and Sweeden.

A celebration of life will be planned for a future date. Instead of flowers/gifts, please donate to the Parkinson's Foundation (https://www.parkinson.org/).
