Ana Fuentes Obituary

FUENTES, ANA TARRERO, 94, passed away in Miami on April 25, 2008. Born in Moron, Cuba, she was the widow of Antonio Fuentes, who died in 1993. When she and her younger sister lost their mother at an early age, she took over the latter's care and protection. Still a teenager, she became a Congressional stenographer, a valued skill before the widespread use of tape recorders and transcribing equipment, and was respected among peers for her expert recording and rendition of the sessions of the Cuban Constitutional Assembly of 1940. Though she never had children of her own, her mothering extended to her nieces, who will always remember her with gratitude. She is survived by sister Maria (Mery) Tarrero, widow of former Cuban President Carlos Prio Socarras, nieces Marian and Maria Elena Prio and Mercedes (Nena) Juncadella, great- nephew Carlos Prio Odio, great-nieces Ana Maria Juncadella Barbosa and Sarah Prio Odio, nephew by marriage Cesar Odio and other family members. A funeral Mass will be held at St. Jude's Catholic Church, 1501 Brickell Avenue, on Tuesday, April 29, at 6:30 p.m., and her remains will depart Caballero Rivero Woodlawn Funeral Home, 8200 S.W. 40th Street (Bird Road), on Wednesday, April 30, at 9:30 a.m. for internment at Woodlawn Park Cemetery North, 3260 S.W. 8th Street. Rest in peace, dear Tia Ana. To visit this Guest Book Online, go to www.MiamiHerald.com/obituaries.
