Miami, Florida - Dr. Antonio "Tony" de la Maza, 88, passed away peacefully on May 29, 2025, in Miami, Florida, following a short battle with cancer.

Born in Havana, Cuba, Dr. de la Maza began his academic journey at Maristas, later attending the University of Havana. He earned his medical degree from the University of Madrid and completed specialized training in psychiatry at the Menninger Clinic.

After emigrating to the United States, Dr. de la Maza dedicated his life to mental health care. He served as Chief of Psychiatry at the Walla Walla VA Medical Center, providing compassionate care to veterans. Later, he worked at the South Florida Evaluation and Treatment Center, ultimately finishing his career at Community Health Inc. at the age of 85.

Dr. de la Maza is survived by his children, Cindy and Andy; their mother, Lynn; his partner, Linda; Linda's children and grandchildren; his brothers Sebastian and Juan; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents, Sophia and Sebastian.

Beyond medicine, he enjoyed history, Native American culture, orchids, playing dominoes, and traveling.

A Celebration of Life will be held on June 28, 2025, from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at South Miami / Coral Gables Elks Lodge, 6304 SW 78th St.
