Barbara Ann Gross Genet

Barbara Genet Obituary

GENET, BARBARA ANN GROSS. Barbara Ann Gross Genet, 75, died peacefully Wednesday at her home in Kendall. She was born in Brooklyn and grew up in the New York area. She went to college at Tyler School of Fine Arts in Philadelphia where she began her formal art training. On a break from college with her family at Grossinger's Resort in the Catskills, she met Saul Genet of Miami Beach. It was to be a whirlwind romance that turned into a wedding six weeks later, and would last for 53 years until Saul's death in 2005. The newlyweds settled in Miami Beach where they began their family of three children. In her spare time, Barbara taught art and loved dabbling in color. She worked in multi-mediums by painting bold large acrylic pictures, decorating special occasion cards and centerpieces, hosting charming theme-based parties, cooking up a storm, and illustrating and authoring two published juvenile books. During the past several years, even after Saul's death, she prodigiously worked in her studio creating new projects, hoping to publish yet another book. She was a founding member of the Dadeland Garden Club, founding and life member of Sunshine Cancer Unit, and a long-time member with Saul of Temple Beth Am of Kendall. She is survived by her three children, Lane Genet (Ellen), of Pinecrest, Amy Genet (Jonathan Rubins) of Palm Beach Gardens, FL, and Jackie Weinstein (Steve) of Jerusalem; older sister Ruth Halperin of Deerfield Beach; and leaves a legacy of 16 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. Memorial service will be held 1:30 pm Sunday at Riverside-Gordon Memorial Chapels at Mt. Nebo, 5900 SW 77 Avenue, Miami, to be followed by internment at Mt. Sinai Memorial Park Cemetery. Donations may be made to Sunshine Cancer Unit, c/o Delores Starr, 9981 SW 129 St., Miami, FL 33176. To visit this Guest Book Online, go to www.MiamiHerald.com/obituaries.

Jackie, Amy and Lane,
I was sad to see that your mother passed away. I have found memories of being at your house in high school, spending many afternoons playing and being fed by your mother. She was always a lovely, kind lady. I hope each of you and your families are doing well. I'd love to hear from Jackie at some point to catch up on our lives.
Fondly, Jan Darlow Langer

Amy, Lane and the entire Genet family: I was so sorry to hear that Barbara had passed away. I was out of town when I found out as I would have wanted to attend the services. Your mother and father were very dear to me. They will always have a very special place in my heart.
My sincere sympathy

Amy, Lane and Jackie, I was so sorry to hear about your mothers passing. I am glad that I got to see her recently even under the circumstances at the time. I always enjoyed visiting with her at the Dade Paper functions and was impressed with her creativity.

Dear Amy,
My Deepest Deepest Sympathy & Heartfelt Condolences to you & your family, as well as your brother, sister, & their families. I know you know only too well the grief & pain of this loss having gone through this 3 years ago with your dad. It must be so much more profound now with the loss of your mom. I'm sorry, there are no words. I empathize & sympathize as I am mourning the loss of my dad last month, not easy.
Again, my deepest sympathy & heartfelt condolences to you & your families. May your parents rest in peace together now & may you & your family know no more grief.

Barbara always had a smile on her face. She loved her family, and I though of her like another grandmother. I very much enjoyed her company at family events and she was such a joy and pleasure to be around.

I was in shock when I found out she passed away...I had just seen her 2 days prior and she was smiling as always. I will greatly miss her, but her memory will live on in our hearts. Family dinners will never be the same.

I had the pleasure of remodeling the Genet's two car garage to a combo {sewing area?} & entertainment. I remember meeting Mr. Genet at his office to discuss the contract and his concern was..keep my wife happy! One monday morning after my carpenter returned from his home in Big Pine Key with fresh lobster tail for he and I to have for lunch, Mrs. Genet came to offer refreshments and saw the generous amount of lobster we were consuming and exclaimed.."I'm paying you too much money! Over the years as I would see a Dade Paper truck, I would be reminded of that comical moment. They were a great couple and a pleasure to work for. Good luck to the daughter in the judicial election.
