Betsy Kaplan Obituary

KAPLAN, BETSY HESS died at home on Monday, Feb. 27 of cancer at age 90. Betsy, a true public servant, spent 16 years as a member of the School Board. A funeral service will be held Friday, March 3 at 10 am in the main sanctuary of Temple Israel of Greater Miami, with burial to follow at Mt. Nebo Cemetary on NW 3rd St. The family will meet guests between 1:30 and 5:30 p.m. at 2 Grove Isle Drive. Betsy was indeed an arts lover, on and after her
time on the School Board. We used to see each
other often at art events. She would say, "We see
each other at the best places." I miss her smile.

Betsy was a tireless advocate for the arts.
She and I used to joke that we always saw each other at the best events. I will miss her positive presence. She always wore a smile. My condolences to her family and all those who loved her.

The Arts have lost a shining light. No one else like will fight for us like she did. I owe her so much. She gave without any hesitation, a remarkable person that will truly be missed,

I will always remember Betsy's kindness to me. She was so helpful and encouraging to me with my work with Orchestra Miami. She was instrumental in helping us with our first major education concert at the Arsht Center in 2008, and was always full of advice and suggestions. Please accept my condolences.

My condolences to Mrs. Kaplan's family. Betsy served the students of Dade County with great enthusiasm and was a fierce advocate for keeping the arts in schools. I had the pleasure of meeting her during her tenure as a School Board member as she attended many of the functions of the Dade Counseling Association. As an advocate for students I often spoke to items on the agenda and at Public Hearings. Betsy was always gracious and appreciated those who appeared before the board and she set a tone of respect for speakers. She was a dedicated public servant and a remarkable woman. I will always remember her fondly. Thank you, Betsy! You were a class act.

Our condolences to the Kaplan family. Betsy was a natural politician in the finest sense of the word. She always had her constituents' interests at heart. We will miss that broad and ever present smile.

I am so sorry to hear of betsy's passing. Jesus wept after the death of his friend Lazarus. John 11:35. We mourn along with you. May the God who binds up the brokenhearted and comforts all who mourn sustain and surround you, until you meet again, Psalm 147:3.
