Carl "Buddy" Goins

Davie, Florida - Carl "Buddy" Goins 11/30/36-05/21/23.
Born in Evansville, IN, raised in Madisonville, Ky, where he excelled in football and track. Buddy attended University of Kentucky and was proud to be a Wildcat.
Bud relocated to Florida, became assistant football/track coach at Miami Edison High in 1959. Hired as a football assistant at Miami Springs in 1969. Promoted to head coach at Springs in 1975. Led Springs to undefeated regular seasons in 1978, 79 and '93. Career win-loss record of 140-121.
Bud loved the Everglades, deep sea fishing and football. During his final years he enjoyed sitting out by his gazebo where he would feed his fish and the neighbors donkeys, horses and chickens.
He is survived by his 3 "boys", Glenn (Pam), Brent (Cindy) and Jess (Tania), 6 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren and his dear neighbors Jack and Jen. He is preceded in death by his parents Carl and Ruby Goins; sisters, Jane Park and Harriet McGahey.

Coach buddy goins,taught me life lesson as well as football lessons,the days of sitting in his office talking over game plans and him telling things that a father would tell his son about life..he was my mentor as I molded my football coaching style after some of his ways,I coach football from youth to the high school level and used his system to not only be the best conditioned team on the field but the toughest smartest team and I was a disaplend tuff but loving kind of coach and coached football for 30 yrs and now I coach youth volleyball and use the same strategy..God Bless you coach and you will never be forgotten but loved for ever..richard salyer...HAWKS4LIFE

I am so very sad to learn of Buddy´s passing. I got to know him over the past decade as his financial advisor (prior to my retirement) and friend. I enjoyed the hours of time we spent talking about football history in Miami and the South. With me having grown up in Miami in the 60s and having played sports there, we knew many of the same coaches and people. The list of people he knew reads like a "who´s who" of football dignitaries. He was an excellent woodwork craftsman and I have some beautiful pieces that he gave my wife and me when we visited him. I will really miss Buddy, but am very thankful I was able to get to know him. My sincere condolences go out to the entire Goins family.

The Tedder family is mourning with you tonight. My father, Philip Tedder, coached with Buddy through his years at Miami Edison and then at Miami Springs. We are so sad to hear this news. To this day we often talk about Buddy and our days at Edison and Miami Springs. My father is still with us and we have the pictures of the coaches on the wall in our living room to this day. We still even have the Edison blankets that they gave to him in the 1960s. As a kid I remember going to the Goins house after football games where the coaches would have a party. Those were great days and memories!! Our condolences to your family.
