Dear Barbara and family,
The news of Charles's demise devasted my sister and brother.
Charles spent countless hours in our home and was so deeply cared for by our whole family. I remember his high school fraternity years with my brother Curtis, and his college years as a Pike with my brother and father. I always kind of hoped that he became an architect because of my father, who was also an architect. My parents felt as though he was one of theirs.
I remember when he got a job modeling on a ship. I believe the ship was going to the Bahamas. He was filmed in the dining room. He told the hilarious story of having to eat the sumptuous meals several times before the film shots were just right. He said that at that point, he was in no mood to see lobster any time soon. His humor was wonderful!
Seeing my father's creations still warm my heart and the awesome contributions Charles made will live on for us to enjoy as well. He was so clever in every way.
Barbara, I am also a Chi Omega from the U of M. I do hope you remember me and my brother.
Charles was not shy about declaring his deep love of you and his happiness that you and he would have a life together. To have shared children must be awesome.
Please know that all of us are praying for you and yours and we are sure that God is holding Charles in the palm of HIs hand.
He was bigger than life and touched us all so deeply.
May God bless you all.
Most sincerely,
Loretto Haley Murphy

The Cobb family wishes to express our deepest sympathy to Barbara, Gregg, and all of the Pawley family. We had the great good fortune to meet Charles in the early '70s and to enjoy the pleasure of his involvement with us in both home and professional pursuits. Charles was a wonderfully talented person and a lovely gentleman whom we will always admire. Chuck, Sue, Chris and Toby

I knew Charles as a young boy.
We had a "shared" Aunt (Margaret) and Uncle (Dick)Lent and four Lent cousins.
I also had the pleasure of knowing his mother, his grandma Irene Pawley, Uncle Wallace, Uncle Ben Schooler and Charle's two brothers and sister.
The Pawley family is part of my childhood. We were often at the home of our Aunt & Uncle in Long Beach, California.
I wonder if Charles ever knew he was named after his great-grandfather Charles Harrison Schooler?
My prayers are with Barbara and the children during this sad time.

From our years at the Pike fraternity house and the U of M a lot of time has passed. Our lives took different paths but our memories remained. There were many good times back then and each time we go through our photo albums we get a warm feeling reliving the good times we had.
Barbara your loss is enormous. Life will be difficult after having such a long life together. We will remember this for a long time as well. Charles died on our 53rd wedding anniversary and my sister's birthday was also August 7th.(She died in 1990 from cancer at age 53 yrs).
Though so many years have passed since our paths have crossed we want you to know our thoughts and prayers are with you.
Bless you and your family.

Those who knew Charles experienced his kind words, his gentle heart, and his dedication to his family, his profession, and his community. He was a meticulous architect whose attention to the fine detail of creativity was his measure. Yet, he was a leader in valuing the preservation of Miami's rich though too-often neglected history. Having served with Charles on the initial Miami-Dade County Historic Preservation Board, I developed a deep appreciation for his candor, vision, and sensitivity. Pending battles between property owners and County staff often became effervescent almost cheerful compromises through Charles' leadership. Our community is immeasurably richer for having had Charles walking its paths and corridors for these many years.

My deepest sympathies go out to Charles' family. We were both members of the 1951 graduating class at Coral Gables High School where even as a teenager, he was kind and compassionate toward all classmates, a trait carried over into manhood. He was also fun to be with and as we soon discovered, Charles was very creative and talented. He will be so missed, but I pray your hearts will be comforted by beautiful memories.

Charles was in the 1951 graduating class at Coral Gables Senior High School. He was a proud member of the Tau Delta Tau-Stags Club fraternity. Charles and 235 of his fraternity brothers and sisters attended the 2003 TDT-Stags Club reunion. Charlie has joined his 61 fraternity brothers that preceded him, including 3 from the 1951 class. They have already welcomed him and expressed their love for their brother. Charles' fraternity brothers and sisters are including his soul and his family in our thoughts and prayers.
