DAVID JOFFE Obituary

JOFFE, DAVID, passed away in Palm Beach, Florida on Thursday, September 23rd, 2010 at the age of 85. David was born in Bialystok Poland on June 7, 1925. He committed his extraordinary life to many charitable organizations. David's passion for the State of Israel led him to become a major contributor to the Jewish community. He was quoted as saying, "when I look in the mirror, the person I see looking back at me reminds me of my responsibility to the Jewish people". David was a generous contributor to the ADL, UJA Federation, AIPAC and the Israeli Bond campaigns. David greatly contributed to the founding of the Holocaust Museum in Washington, DC. He participated in many missions to Israel to raise funds for their infrastructure. A past President of the Palm Beach Federation said of David, "It is always a joy to work with someone who shares a vision of a strong and vibrant Jewish Community. Having a dynamic community leader with this vision will lead to one success after another." In 1926 his parents Helen and Jacob migrated from Poland to Mexico City with David, his brother Sol and Sister Birdie where they lived for three years until they finally settled in Vineland, NJ. As a graduate of Vineland High School he was a forward on the basketball team. David went on to attend Penn State University where he participated in the Navy V-12 program. He was a WW II veteran, who returned to school later in life to proudly receive his degree. As a young man, David and his siblings joined his father's business, the Joffe Lumber Company, which later evolved into several thriving millwork businesses. David was married to Patricia Carr for 22 years. The couple had two children Jill and Scott. Jill is married to Dr. Howard Schwartz. They have three children Marissa, Jennifer and Jason. Scott is married to Kimberli. They live in Austin, Texas with their daughter Susannah. His lessons to his children were to always be the best that they can be, and to have compassion for others. In 1987, David moved to Palm Beach and married Mona Rosenberg. As an avid golfer he was a founding member of High Ridge Country Club, where they enjoyed 20 years together. He was also a past member of Buena Vista CC in Vineland, NJ, and Woodmond Country Club in Bethesda, MD. As a Father, Husband, Grandfather and Friend David will be greatly missed. Funeral services will be held on Monday Sept. 27 at 12:00 noon at Levitt-Weinstein 3201 NW 72nd Ave. Hollywood, FL. Shiva will be held on Monday, Sept. 27 at 5:30 PM and Tuesday, Sept. 28th at 6:00 PM at the Schwartz's home at 255 Costanera Road, Coral Gables, Florida.
