Palm Beach, Florida - Donald C. Gaby 25 November 1930 - 23 November 2022, 91, died at The Stuart Meyer Hospice House in Palm Coast and his remains will be at the old Miami City Cemetery without ceremony. Don was born in Arizona and came with his family to South Florida from Mexico in 1933, retiring in Miami in 1983 and moving to this area in 1994. A meteorologist, he served over four years on active duty with the Air Force in the 1950s. Most of his civilian career was spent with the National Weather and National Environmental Satellite Services in Miami, where for the last 13 years he was in charge of weather satellite operations at the National Hurricane Center. He loved to travel and alone or with his first wife visited and lived in many parts of the United States, Canada, Mexico, Japan, Central and South America and Europe. An amateur historian and writer, he wrote many articles and books. He and his wife, Elly, belonged to the Fairchild Tropical Garden, Vizcayans and Historical Museum in Miami and to the Symphony Society, Daytona Playhouse, Halifax Historical Society, Museum of Arts & Sciences, Ormond Beach Historical Society and the Halifax River Yacht Club in this area. He was preceded into the next life by his dear wife, Elly, in 2005. He remarried with Bernadine and they also enjoyed much travel in the States and Germany. Survivors include his daughter, Sharon and son-in-law, Tom Calnan, and grandson, Patrick Calnan, of Mims Florida.
