FRANK BURKE Obituary

BURKE, FRANK J. 03/05/1926 - 03/25/2011 It is with a sad heart that we announce the passing of Frank Joseph Burke. On Friday, March 25, 2011 at 6 am Frank, with his family by his side, passed on after a short but hard fought battle in Mercy Hospital. A 38 year resident of Key Biscayne, Frank is survived by the "Love of His Life"- Maggie Burke, and two sons, Greg and Tom. He was born on March 5, 1926 in Boston, Ma where he attended high school and college. He later joined the seminary where he became very involved with the underprivileged children in Boston. Frank later moved on to serve 12 extremely proud years as a Chaplain in the United States Navy. This is where he had the fortune of meeting Maggie, who was also serving in the Navy. They went on to enjoy 43 years together as husband and wife. After moving to Key Biscayne, Frank began a career with the EEOC. He also became a member of the Music and Drama Club of Key Biscayne, a board member and later President of the Key Biscayne Beach Club and member of the Key Biscayne American Legion. But without question, Frank was most happy when he became involved in not only his boys' athletic events, but all youth activities. His most celebrated accomplishments are being Athletic Director of the Key Biscayne Athletic Club and President of the Dade Youth Soccer Organization and coach of the Yankees, one of Key Biscayne's Little League Baseball team. It goes with out saying how pleased he was to see the "Curse" lifted as the Red Sox won the World Series! Maggie, Greg and Tom would like to invite all to join us as we partake in a celebration of Frank's life on Thursday, March 31st from 6-9 pm. It will be a casual celebration at the Key Biscayne Beach Club located at 685 Ocean Drive, Key Biscayne, FL, 305-361-2813. Frank will be missed by all, he was a great husband, father, grandfather and friend. View this Guest Book at www. MiamiHerald.com/obituaries.

Maggie, Tom and Greg-
Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. We were very sad to hear of Frank's passing. He always greeted me with a "Hey Sean, you look great!" He always took the time to ask about my family, my interests and he never forgot about my unassisted triple play back in 1977! The world has truly lost an amazing man but Heaven has gained a beautiful soul.
Much love,
