GREGORY SALGADO Obituary

SALGADO, GREGORY, a leading real estate professional, died Sunday January 23, 2011 at Calvary Hospital in NYC. Mr. Salgado was born in Cuba on April 10, 1959 and moved to NYC when he was eight years old where he later graduated from All Hallows High School. His passion for the arts began in college when he studied Art History and moved on to serve as a curator at The Museum of Natural history. Mr. Salgado's real-estate career spanned over 25 years, beginning in the 1980's when he started a Soho firm and later founded Real Renters LTD, Heim Realty and Structura LLC. A true visionary, he garnered critical acclaim when he and his associates wired the first new residential building in the world with T1 Internet access at a time when dial up service was still in its infancy. The East Village T1 project garnered international attention when Reuters wrote the first article before a press release was even out, followed by CNN, ABC, CBS, NBC, Telemundo and a phone call from Vice President Gore's office. Mr. Salgado was an entrepreneur, artist, creator and an original thinker. While Mr. Salgado made his mark on the real estate world through technological innovation and trading of domain names, perhaps his greatest legacy is the hundreds of young real estate professionals who he trained and mentored. Over 25 men and women who began their career learning from Mr. Salgado went on to start their own successful brokerage firms throughout New York and Brooklyn. Mr. Salgado was a husband, father and a friend. He is survived by his wife Lisa Salgado of Regensburg, Bavaria, his beloved children Max and Aurora and their mother Karen Heim-Amadon, his mother Encarnacion (Felix), his stepdaughter Nadine, brothers Larry Batista (Beatrice), Osvaldo Batista (Christy),George Solano (Diana), and sister Sandra Solano. A candlelight vigil will be held for Mr. Salgado on April 10th. Donations can be made in his name at www.diabetes.org or you may plant a tree at www.jnf.org 800-542-8733.
