Harvey Chaplin Obituary

Miami, Florida - The Mount Sinai Medical Center family pays tribute to Harvey R. Chaplin,
a generous and dedicated supporter of our hospital. The patriarch of a multi-generational family of donors, Mr. Chaplin's contributions to our medical center have been greatly acknowledged and valued over the years. Mr. Chaplin is survived by his wife Roberta, (his first wife Arlene passed away in 2000), his three children, nine grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren. He was an Onyx member in the Society of Mount Sinai, our Foundation's most time-honored fundraising organization. Mr. Chaplin served on the Board of Trustees of the medical center, in addition to being named a Lifetime Trustee of the medical center's Cancer Lifeline. As Chairman and CEO of Southern Glazer's Wine and Spirits, Mr. Chaplin's visionary leadership propelled the organization into being the largest distributor of alcohol in North America. His profound successes in business matched Mr. Chaplin's philanthropic leadership, as his generosity helped to create the Harvey R. Chaplin Stroke and Chest Pain Center on Mount Sinai's Miami Beach Campus in 2009. An engaged and compassionate philanthropist, Mr. Chaplin has not only supported Mount Sinai, but many other medical and educational institutions on both a state and national level. All of us at Mount Sinai extend our heartfelt condolences to Mr. Chaplin's family and friends. He leaves a legacy of helping others through his kindness and generosity and will always have a special place in the hearts of everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.

I just found out about Harvey´s passing purely by accident.He was a great man and he was my father Buddy´s best friend.They knew each other since they were boys in Brooklyn and always had a great time when they were together.Mom will be sad to hear this and my thoughts and prayers go out to your family. It was my honor to have known Harvey Chaplain for 25 years through Temple Beth Sholom. He was the most generous man I ever met and always greeted me with a hug and smile. He helped make Fran's 50th Birthday a highlight of our lives in Napa and we are eternally grateful for his abundance of good deeds. Our deepest condolences to all of his family, Roberta, Wayne and Arlene, Paul and Karen, Terry and Fred, and all of their wonderful children who grew up at Temple Beth Sholom.
