Janice Kendall Lowe
July 22, 1931 - March 4, 2024
Miami, Florida - Lowe, Janice Kendall, 92, passed away March 4th, 2024, spending her final days surrounded by the family she loved so deeply.
Jan was the youngest daughter of Viola and Dennis M. Kendall born on July 22, 1931, in Miami, Florida. She attended Silver Bluff Elementary, Shenandoah Junior High School and proudly graduated from Miami Senior High School class of 1949 where she earned varsity letters in multiple sports. Jan continued her education at the University of Miami where lifelong friendships and memories were created at her beloved Beta Tau chapter of Delta Gamma. She was always ready to have a solid conversation with anyone regarding "her Hurricanes".
Spending time with Jan, you were bound to hear about her days as a flight attendant and the exciting times she had traveling. Her career ambitions changed when Jan met the love of her life, Don and they married in 1954. Together they raised two children in their Coconut Grove home. They cherished their time spent together at Plymouth Congregational Church, the Coconut Grove Sailing Club, and summers in Clayton, Georgia, particularly on beautiful Lake Rabun.
Growing up on beautiful Biscayne Bay found the Lowe's spending much time at the Coconut Grove Sailing Club where Jan was a member and served as president of ladies' auxiliary, the Whitecaps. Sailing and boating provided many happy memories for Jan and her family.
Finding time for community and giving back was important to Jan. She served as president of the Delta Gamma alumnae group as well as chapter advisor for the Beta Tau chapter of DG's. Recognitions were well deserved as she was recipient of The Cable Award from Executive offices for her dedication and hard work. She adored her collegians and still today, they refer to her as "Hannah Jan".
As a member of Plymouth Church, Jan held many leadership roles. She was the president of Trapp Circle, Chairman of the Board of Stewardship and Benevolence, a member of the senior pastor search committee and the Triune Club. Most famously, Jan transformed the This N' That Shop, (Plymouth Church's thrift boutique.) For the better part of 20 years, she enlisted volunteers, and together, with her dedicated leadership, the shop grew into a thriving, well known business that gives back to her cherished Coconut Grove community as well as deserving charities. Everyone on Commodore Plaza knew Jan, or as many affectionately referred to her, the original "J Lowe".
Jan is survived by her children, Randy (Sheila) and Donna Martinez (Ray) her grandchildren, Rebecca (Kevin), Michael, Matthew (Jacqueline), Mary (Thomas), great grandchildren Addison, Noah and Joseph, and many nieces and nephews.
She is predeceased by her husband Donald, and granddaughter Emily.
