Joanna Fenstermacher Obituary

FENSTERMACHER, PH.D., JOANNA TROUTMAN, 77, died quietly of pneumonia on March 12, precipitated by Alzheimer's dementia. Joanna, a calm and reassuring presence, thrived on challenge and laughter. She gave much to many: As a flight attendant (EAL); a spouse to "Murph" and a mother to James and Jody; a math teacher (South Dade, Miami Palmetto); an executive placement counselor; a pioneering psychologist and a university faculty member (U. of Miami Medical School, Department of Family Medicine); and as a family member, friend, and colleague. Joanna loved to travel, ski, play tennis and the piano, cook, entertain, and enjoy tranquil sunsets on the water. Her sister, Florie, her brother, Russell, and her son and daughter survive. We miss sadly, Joanna; but, she lives and inspires in our hearts. We hold a memorial celebration at Fairchild Tropical Botanical Garden on Friday, May 12, 4:30 PM. E-mail: James ([email protected]); Jody ([email protected]) To visit this Guest Book Online, go to www.herald.com/obituaries.

Ms Fenstermacher was my math teahcer both @ South Dade in '65 & again @ Palmetto Sr. High in '67. She was also a close friend & neighbor of my family when we lived on SW 127th St. I recall her as always being soft spoken and well groomed. She affectionately signed my yearbook which I hold dear. Her loss makes me sad, but her memory makes me smile.
