Palmetto Bay, Florida - Jose Benito Sanchez passed away of natural causes. He lived a complete life and fulfilled the promise of the American Dream: work hard, build a life, start a family, and foster community. Jose was born in Havana, Cuba on September 6, 1940. After the communist takeover of Cuba in 1959, and the seizing of his family's assets, Jose and his brother fled to the United States. Jose graduated from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute June 7, 1963, with a degree in Electrical Engineering. Jose began working at Florida Power & Light and quickly rose through the ranks to direct one of its largest districts. On May 4, 1978, Jose graduated from the University of Miami with a Master of Business Administration. Intimately familiar with the challenges immigrants faced when coming to the United States, Jose joined Hispanic Heritage and was president of the organization for several years. In that capacity, Jose promoted Hispanic culture and assisted Hispanic immigrants integrating into the community. In 1992 Jose retired from FPL and, not one to rest on his laurels, founded a business consulting firm with fellow former partners from FPL, Management Systems International. In the early 2000s Jose joined Management Resources Inc., and applied his expertise to help lay the foundation for what would later become Miami Regional University. Jose was an avid reader, life-long learner, and loved to travel. He will be dearly missed.

Jose is survived by his brothers, Eduardo and Carlos, his wife, Ophelia, his children, Gigi, Jose, Ophie, and Richard, and grandchildren Renata, Jose Carlos, Richie, Madison, Robert, and Sophia. Services for Jose Benito Sanchez will be held October 20, 2024, at 1:30 p.m. at Caballero Rivero Woodlawn, 11655 SW 117th Ave, Miami FL 33186.
