Judy Gilbert Obituary

Judy Gilbert
December 2, 1934 - April 21, 2023
South Miami, Florida - Judy M. Gilbert, a lifelong resident of Miami, passed away on April 21, 2023 at the age of 88. She was the daughter of the late Stanley C. and Martha M. Myers, and sister to the late Kenneth M. Myers.
Judy is survived by her children, Bobby (Nancy) Gilbert, Carolyn Gilbert Epstein, and Mark (Belinda) Gilbert, as well as eight grandchildren, Geoff, Stuart, Evan, Lee, Anabel, Brett, Grace and Madeline.
In 1992, Judy married Gerald Gould. They enjoyed nearly 22 wonderful years together until Gerry died in 2014.
Judy was part of a family whose DNA instilled a commitment to serve the community and improve the lives of others. This calling paved the way for an extraordinarily fulfilling life journey.
As a young woman, Judy became involved in the National Council of Jewish Women, eventually serving as President of its Miami chapter. In recognition of her service, Judy was awarded NCJW's highest honor, the Hannah G. Solomon Award for her commitment to the advancement of human welfare.
Judy later served in several professional capacities. Working under then-Dade County State Attorney Janet Reno, Judy was the Director of Victim-Witness Services in the State Attorney's Office to help prepare rape victims to testify in court.
Judy's professional career took on the greatest meaning when she began working for the Jewish people. In 1983, Judy joined the Greater Miami Jewish Federation, where she served for many years as Director of Federation's Community Relations Council. In 2007, Judy received the Myron J. Brodie Award for Professional Excellence, in recognition of her professionalism and profound commitment to furthering the mission of Federation and exemplifying the highest standards of Jewish communal service. Judy retired from Federation in 2008, after 25 years of dedicated and fulfilling service.
One of the dividends of Judy's service at Federation were the many people with whom she built long-lasting friendships, many of whom looked upon Judy as a role model and mentor.
Our Mom loved her children and grandchildren, taught us incredible life lessons that shaped the people we are today, was immensely proud of our accomplishments, and was never unduly harsh or judgmental when we slipped up. Our Mom had an enormous impact on our lives and the lives of those she touched. She lived a life that mattered and made a difference.

One year. I am mentally placing a rock at her gravesite in remembrance. On the other hand, I remember her so often. I wish I could talk with her about what´s going on in Israel now. Sending hugs.

No one personified the strength of conviction and love of Israel and Judaism like Judy. She raised three fabulous children who carry on everything she and her parents stood for in making Miami a solid Jewish community. She was a mentor to me and so many other women. What a loss for us, but a joy to have known her. Bobby, Nancy, Mark, Belinda & Caroline, our hearts are with you! Love, Julie, and Jeff

I met my good friend Carolyn through her mother. Also, Judy and my mom met in high school. Judy was volunteering at the State Attorney's Office and was helping me out. She told me that she had a daughter and thought we would really get along. That was at least 30 years ago and Carolyn is a dear friend.
