BERRY, LORENZO D., Jr. Passed away at home on January 28th, 2016, was born April 5th, 1919 in Grant, Florida, the oldest of three siblings, was married to Fl‚rida Y. Berry, who passed on March 20th, 2014, and is survived by their two sons, Lorenzo (Lonnie) D. Berry III and Jeffrey M. Berry. Qualified for and graduated from the first class of FDR's Civil Pilot Training Program. Served with the USAAF in the China-Burma-India theatre from 1944 to 1945 flying fuel tankers to supply our bombers; retired with the rank of Major. Moved to Dominican Republic in 1947 as a pilot, where he was known by his nickname, Wimpy, and met his future wife and soulmate. In 1958 established the first full service supermarket in the country in the first fully air-conditioned commercial building in the country's history. A pioneer in many ways, who, along with his wife, also became national heroes of the Dominican Republic after finally admitting, in their twilight years, to their acts of valor which they had previously denied for most of their adult life. He led a full, adventurous, and healthy life and will be missed every second of every day by his sons and extended family. Visitation will be on Saturday, Feb. 6th from 5-7pm with a service beginning at 7pm at Stanfill Funeral Home.
