MARJORIE GILBERT Obituary

GILBERT, MARJORIE. It is with profound sadness that we advise of the passing of Marjorie Gilbert, 83, on April 19, 2010, after a lengthy illness. Born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, on October 23, 1926, Marjorie leaves behind her loving family, sisters Jessie Reynen and Ethel (Ted) Holmes, along with a large extended family, including nieces, nephews, and friends. Predeceased by husbands James Marino and Milford Gilbert, sister Ruth Lippens, brothers James Matthew and John Matthew, and nephew Teddy Holmes. Marjorie loved Miami and its heat. Leaving Winnipeg in her early twenties, she vowed never to be cold again. Marjorie was a feisty woman, and when asked to be quiet, she then spoke louder. Marjorie's love for her family was in her total commitment to them. She was the hub of the wheel, the central point of family contact. Marjorie often fascinated her many nieces and nephews with stories of the hot Miami culture during the 50's and 60's. She tended her family with care, often guiding those nieces and nephews who had lost their own mothers. Marjorie followed her dreams, not rules, and was the better for it. She often noted that she never once regretted the choices she made. Marjorie's last piece of advice given to her family was "Enjoy. Enjoy every day you have." In her early years, she worked in the food service industry mainly at Wolfie's on Collins Ave. Then with her second husband, Milford, owned and operated a small dry cleaning and alteration shop, The Sea View, in Surfside, which after Milford's death, she operated until her retirement. Marjorie was a long time resident of the Majorca Towers and then at the Sterling until being hospitalized. Special thanks from the family to the staff at the Sterling and Palm Gardens for the wonderful care given to Marjorie over the last few years. No funeral or memorial service by request. I have always loved you so much aunt Marge! I am so happy I got to see you in my adulthood, after too many years! You never knew how much you meant to me, and its too late to tell you, but you were so loved!

Memories, so many good memories. One of the many used to be the fishing trips to White Lake in Manitoba. Off we would go our family and our Aunt and her then boy friend in his big caddy for a day of fishing and swimming. Oh ya a stop on the way out for a batch of Salsbury chili, toast and coffee to be eaten in the car as we traveled. Then she moved to Florida and the great visits we had with her when she would come home. Date night was always a special night. Aunty would take you out on a date. First to shop then dinner and off bowling at the local ally. So many memories.
Rest in peace Aunty. You were my teacher,my supporter my second mother and I will miss you dearly. With all my LOVE Don
