Mark Jay Lazarus

1930 - 2016

Mark Jay Lazarus, MD, son of George and Shirley Lazarus, passed away November 28, 2016. He was born September 15, 1930 in Brooklyn, New York. He is survived by his loving wife Elaine and devoted children Lori, Lief, Linda, and Roy, adored sister Judith Leibman, beautiful grandchildren, Joseph, Jacob and Lilliana, son-in-law Joe Fischer, and many wonderful friends and colleagues. Mark met his wife Elaine at a New Year's Eve party at Mount Sinai Hospital. After their first date he called his friends to ask if they wanted to come to a wedding. They were married May 7, 1967 at the Seville hotel in Miami Beach and shared 49 loving years together. Mark graduated from University of Miami Medical School and completed his internship at Mount Sinai Hospital, and his residency at Jackson Memorial Hospital. He loved being a doctor. He practiced Internal Medicine for 36 years. He was a great conversationalist with a wonderful sense of humor. He liked to talk to everyone and make people laugh. He was an avid sports fan, card player, and wordsmith who loved the challenge of completing the daily NY Times crossword puzzle. He enjoyed spending time with his loving family. He lived his life with passion and devotion. He leaves a legacy of helping others through his medical expertise. He will be greatly missed and forever loved and will always have a special place in the hearts of everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him. Memorial services will be held at Riverside Gordon - 20955 Biscayne Blvd. Aventura on Thursday, December 1 at 12:15.
