Martin Spector Obituary

SPECTOR, MARTIN (MIKE) W., age 98, of Coral Gables, died on Wednesday, September 24, 2003. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Dorothy M. Spector, and children, Ann (William) Lieff, Rosalind (Jack) Zacks, Michael (Margo) Spector, Bayard (Elizabeth) Spector, his sister-in-law Shirley Spector and grandchildren: Laura Lieff, Marshall Spooner, Dorothy Spector and Tara Scherzer. He was born June 18, 1905 in Norfolk, Virginia. In 1948, he founded Spec's Music with the opening of the first Spec's on Dixie Highway in South Miami, FL. The company became Florida's largest retailers of pre-recorded music with stores in Floridaand Puerto Rico. Today Spec's Music operates under specialty retailer Trans World Entertainment Corp. An avid fan of classical music, he built the largest collection of classical music in Miami at Spec's and was one of the founders of the Friends of Chamber Music and Community Concerts of Miami. Before founding Spec's Music, Mike practices law after earning his BA Degree from Washington and Lee and LLB Degree from the University of Virginia. Mike served in the U.S. 34d Company under General George Patton. He participated in the Utah Beach landing in Normandy, France and was with this unit throughout the campaigns in France, Germany, and the Battle of the Bulge in Belgium. Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Friday, September 26, 2003 at Congregation Bet Breira 9400 SW 87th Avenue Miami 33176 The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to: The American Technion Society-Israel Institute of Technology, 810 Seventh Avenue, New York, New York, 10012 or Congregation Bet Briera.
