MARVIN GUTTER Obituary

GUTTER, MARVIN C., 60, of Hollywood, Florida passed away peacefully after a courageous battle with cancer. He is survived by his loving wife of 26 years, Calla, and his devoted son, Joshua. He was a beloved brother to Dr. Sheila Gutter and Steven Gutter (Alice Moss). He will be remembered for his many years of extraordinary public service, in government, in the legal profession, in academia, and in charitable organizations. For nearly three decades, Marvin served as Board President of the Ann Storck Center, a nationally accredited, non-profit human service organization serving the needs of individuals with severe and multiple developmental disabilities. Throughout his 30 year legal career, he was recognized for his humanitarian and professional efforts, including receipt of the Pro Bono Award of the 17th Judicial Circuit and the Gerald T. Hart Award presented by the Tax Section of The Florida Bar to the Outstanding Tax Attorney of the Year in the State of Florida, amongst others. He was also an adjunct professor in the graduate estate planning program at the University of Miami Law School where he lectured on procedure and ethics. Most recently, the Tax Section of The Florida Bar announced the establishment of the Marvin C. Gutter Outstanding Public Service Award. Marvin was a partner in the law firm of Gutter, Chaves, Josepher, Rubin, Forman, Fleisher, P.A. in Boca Raton, Florida, and was actively involved in the South Florida legal community. Prior to entering private practice, he served as a trial attorney with the Office of Chief Counsel, Internal Revenue Service. He obtained his law degree from Hofstra Law School, where he graduated valedictorian. And beyond all professional accolades, Marvin will be most remembered for his compassionate heart, genuine character, and witty sense of humor. He was dearly loved and will be deeply missed by all those whose lives he touched. Funeral services will be held at 10am, Sunday in the chapel at Levitt-Weinstein/Beth David Memorial Gardens, 3201 NW 72nd Ave, Hollywood, FL, 33024. In lieu of flowers the family respectfully asks that donations be made to the Ann Storck Center, 1790 SW 43rd Way, Ft. Lauderdale, FL, 33317. View this Guest Book at www. MiamiHerald.com/obituaries.

I know of Marvin mostly through the stories his Dad, Joe and his Mom, Ida would tell me. How I would laugh sitting around Ida's kitchen table as Joe and Ida told me stories of Marvin's childhood and teen years. The Gutter family has a special place in my heart. In that place are my deepest thoughts and prayers for all the family.

While I only had the pleasure of knowing Marvin for a short amount of time, it was truly an honor to have shared the company of such a remarkable man. I was immediately touched by Marvin's kindness and care for others, and he was such a joy to be around. His exemplary reputation in the legal community is certainly something to strive for but near impossible to match. My deepest and most sincere condolences go out to the entire Gutter family and his professional family.

Dear Cousins Calla & Josh:
Please accept our heartfelt condolences on the loss of your husband and father (respectively). He was the consummate mensch, few would make the effort to stand up for and work in behalf of those less fortunate. Few would go out of their way to do the right thing. Clearly our dear Cousin Marvin knew what the right thing was and did it without anticipating reward and recognition.

May his memory only be for a blessing. And we here in Tucson will try in every way to be supportive and a source of comfort dearest cousins.
