Michael Radell Obituary

RADELL, MICHAEL E. 66 passed away Saturday, December 30, 2017. A longtime resident of Pinecrest, Mike adored his daughters, Amy and Samantha and his wife of 37 years, Beverly. His granddaughter Cate was his delight. His passion for travel led to many adventurous trips around the world. Getting lost was a certainty. A graduate of UM Law School, he was a true football fan Go Canes! Mike graduated cum laude from the University of Miami School of Law, and earned a Masters in Regional Planning from the University of Pennsylvania, after receiving his undergraduate degree from Pennsylvania State University. Mike co-founded the firm of Bercow Radell Fernandez & Larkin in 1996, after practicing at Stroock & Stroock & Lavan's Miami office, and before that at the Miami law firm of Steel Hector & Davis. Before graduating law school in 1986 and while in law school, Mike was an environmental planner at the County's Planning Department, where he was involved in the development of Dade County's Severable Use Rights Ordinance and the East Everglades Management Plan, and was also the author of the County's Infill Development Strategies Report. Mike's expertise in environmental law was consistently recognized by his peers and numerous publications, including Best Lawyers, Super Lawyers and Florida Trend's Legal Elite. He was a mentor to the younger attorneys at his law firm, and helped teach many of them much of what they know about land use and environmental law. As the senior partner in the firm, he will be sorely missed. He is survived by his beloved wife, Beverly; daughters, Amy (Alex) and Samantha; granddaughter, Cate and mother, Mary Radell. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are requested to your favorite charity. The family will receive guests on Wednesday, January 3, 2018 from 6-7pm with a memorial service beginning at 7pm at Stanfill Funeral Home.

Not sure what to say?

January 23, 2018

I was shocked and saddened to read about Mike's passing in the Florida Bar Journal.

Mike and I were in the night section of law school together, and we would compete with each other each semester to see who had a higher law school ranking. But every semester it was always the same; we both had exactly the same ranking throughout law school.

I will miss our occasional chats during the years to discuss the law and family.

My thoughts are with you at this difficult time.

Warm regards,
Susan Geiger

Bev: Paula and I are so sorry to hear of Mike's passing. He and I worked together at Stroock many years ago, and I will always remember Mike as such a genuine, nice, interesting person. He cared not a wit that I was a very young lawyer 14 years his junior. He always had the time to discuss virtually anything with me, and he really set an example for me of how I should treat others. I really viewed his office as a great place to hang out. I know there is nothing I can say to take away the pain of his loss, but I want you to know that Mike does live on in the example he set. While I did not know Mike very well, I do try to emulate what I did know of him. He truly did make the world a better place, and he will be missed.
