it has been deeply saddening news to learn about Mr. Milton's departure. I got introduced to Mr. Milton in relation to a purchase deal involving a GulfstreamIII he owned. i was working as consultant on behalf of a Saudi Billionaire then in year 2007/8. I was not only impressed with Mr. Milton's business ethics but also for the wonderful person he was. Although its late but since i just came to know about it i humbly submit my condolences to the family and pray that may Mr. Milton's soul rest in peace in heavens. It is with deep sadness that I have learnt of Milton's passing on. I had met him a couple of times over a business transaction in Miami some years ago and was greatly impressed by him human qualities during that short time. Looking at the news now confirms to me that my initial impressions about him were so true.
A person so passionate about his work, he took time to take me around his office and I could feel the joy and pride that he had for the work. He also hosted a private lunch in his office and was a thorough gentleman all through the time.
My sincerest condolences to his family but they should all feel a great pride and honour to have had him as a husband and a father. People like Milton are larger than life and will always be missed by every one whose lives he touched.

Rest in peace.

During the late 90's I was awoken by Bob Dylan, as we cruised through the Exuma Island in the Bahamas. I went and sat on the bridge with Milton and together we blasted out "Hey Mr. Tambourine Man.." as the sun rose above the horizon... an English yacht deckhand (half beach bum) and an American businessman; two complete opposites, having a great time together.

Today Sept 18th 2009 sitting in Tokyo, another land of the rising sun, and now owner of my own business, I heard "Mr. Tambourine man" again and it spurred me to check up and see what was happening in Ferrell life.

Dear Lori, the "Morgster" and Whit', my deepest sympathies to you; you are all in my thoughts.

I wouldn't be where I am now without meeting Milton "tambourine man" Ferrell and since the 90's every time I hear the song it brings back fond and happy memories of the fantastic Ferrell family. Milton gave a lazy bum a chance and a start that I will never ever forget.

Milton, you were and always will be a Gentleman who can enjoy life equally with the most powerful of society and the guy who runs the corner shop or sweeps the street.... or just a foolish English lad who needed a bit of direction!

Thanks. You will be greatly missed.

I wish to extend my family's sincere sympathies to the Ferrell family for their loss of Milton.

I learned just last week of his passing from Jack Simmons, Esq., Mr. Ferrell's Maine trial lawyer, who was in my law office in Bangor.
We exchanged several engaging and noble stories of Mr. Ferrell's very storied and successful career.

My dad, John E. Largay, Jr., a life-long realtor/developer, was a very special friend who met Milton when he acquired property in Maine as a fee in a celebrated case that featured him on the 60 Minutes news program. Dad and Milton became terrific friends who shared some great times and memories, from fishing on Rainbow Lake in Maine, to dining and boating together in Florida. They'd been out of touch more recently, but Dad is sad to have lost such a great friend.

Once, in a complex federal criminal case I had pending in Maine, Milton invited me to Miami to analyze the facts and help prepare for the trial. In impromptu fashion, he engaged me in the Socratic method and demonstrated several mock cross examinations.

I was mesmerized then, and remain so today. He was a kind, generous and talented lawyer who will be sadly missed by our family in Maine. God Bless.

I learned of Milt’s death only yesterday when I was paging through my copy of the Mercerian. Milt and I attended law school together and were roommates during our second year. I remember Milt fondly. Milt was responsible for my passing the Georgia Bar. We were third year law students at the time (I understand that Georgia no longer allows third year law students to take the bar). The first day of the bar exam was the Multistate. I walked out of the first day’s exam and told Milt, with whom I was sharing a room in Atlanta, that I surely flunked the Multistate and I was going to head back to Macon. Milt told me to stick around; he said that we would go out for a few cocktails and watch a movie (both of which we did) and head back to Macon after the second day of the exam. On June 1st, the day before graduating from law school, letters revealing the results of the bar exam were received by me, Milt, and most of the rest of our class: I passed the Georgia Bar. Like Milt, I went on to become a member of the Florida Bar and I threw in Connecticut for good measure. I have so many memories of Milt. I recall the day that our Criminal Law professor, Shand Watson, warned that he would allow only two unexcused absences. Milton was absent from the very next class, and the next class, too, until there was 5 minutes left; with 5 minutes left in that class the side door of the classroom flew open and in rushed Milt, pointing to the clock on the wall and announcing to Professor Watson that he had 5 minutes of unexcused absence remaining. Milt was one-of-a-kind; I’m sure his family misses him tremendously. Carl Bausch

I had the pleasure of handling many of Milton's complex business and personal insurance arrangements for several years when I worked at a large national insurance brokerage.

Milton ultimately made a business decision to change brokerage firms and when I received a call from his office informing me of the decision,I was told that as a condition of moving his brokerage business, I would be receiving a call from his new brokerage and I was to be offered a job at any of their locations that I would be willing to work at. As it turned out, I didn't need the job, but the gesture was one of the kindest acts anyone had ever done for me.

I learned much about business and the world working for Milton on many of his matters, and I miss seeing him.

I met Milton Ferrell in 2002, when I was given the opportunity to spear head one of his new offices in South America. At this time of great expansion and of enormous challenges for his firm, he remained centered, thoughtful, kind, and committed to excellence. I will always remember his constant search for common ground and his respect and consideration for the views of others. I always knew that, even though his would be the final word, he would always listen and consider the ideas and concepts presented to him with openness and humility. I will always remember his easy and sincere smile and his constant words of encouragement. I am deeply saddened by his passing. It was a real honor to have met him and to have been part of his rich and wonderful life, no matter how briefly. I send you Lori, and all the Ferrell family, my deepest condolences and my thoughts and prayers.

I knew Milton as a youth at the Asheville School and reconnected with him briefly in the 1970's when he was a young lawyer and his dad defended me gratis from a youthful Miami escapade. Saddened to know of his death though I am, the reading of his accomplishments gladdens the heart of an old teacher. I send you, his family, deep sympathy and will remember fondly the young man I knew who grew into such a mighty lawyer and person.

Lori,
My thoughts, prayers, and sympathies are with you and your family. I am deeply saddened by Milton's passing and your loss. It was mostly through your wonderful stories about Milton that I came to know a little of who he was in these past months. I got to witness his gentlemanliness the day I met him as he stood up for several minutes in conversation, 'post workout', not too long after returning from surgery. I have been deeply moved by the accounts here of how he lived his life right up until the very end. What incredible courage, strength, and conviction he had. I now understand all the more your profound humble and loving devotion to Milton in these last few months. I feel honored to have been part of your lives and blessed to witness your grace, generosity, and strength.

Lori,
It is hard to even imagine that Milton is gone. How thankful we are to have known him--in a professional role for us, but one that showed us the greatness of the man, so multi-faceted of mind and warm and generous of heart. I am so terribly sorry he will not be able to enjoy the beautiful New York apartment with you, and I hope to see you in the City sometime soon. My heart and sympathy is sent with great love and respect to you and your family.

November 26, 2008

Please accept my heartfelt sympathy. The love of family and friends will give you strength and support in the days and months to come. As you celebrate the life of a phenomenal man with a passion for life, may the scriptures give you comfort and hope - 2nd Corinthians 1: 3 & 4 "Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, ... who comforts us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort those in any sort of tribulation through the comfort with which we ourselves are being comforted by God." You are in the thoughts and prayers of many.

Dear Lori, Morgan and Whitney:
I do not know where to begin or how to express my sadness and deepest sympathy. I feel as if I not only watched the children grow, but, as well watched both Milton and Lori grow. I was fortunate to have shared many a time with Milton when he was not on the go and because of this I came to know the incredible man, husband, father, gentleman and human being that God loaned to us for such a short time. He always impressed me with the love he had for his family!! I felt as if he was a son to me. I will deeply miss him. You are all in my thoughts and prayers. God Bless you and my love to you all -- "Emily" Machado

Dear Lori and children:
Milton was one of the rarest combinations of insight, gentlemanliness, brilliance, common sense, inate decency, kindness and so many exemplary qualities that most of us can only wish we could exemplify. From the moment we first met him, we knew we were in the hands of not only a great lawyer, but also a decent and honorable man. We have lost a great friend and our hearts go out to you for the loss you are feeling. All that can be said is that Milton would have wanted you to plunge on with living with the gusto and optimism he always showed. Linda, my children and I will remember you in our prayers. Live on as he would have wanted.

Dear Lori,

We've never met but I know something about you and your family from my friend Carl Hays. Milton and I were very close friends at Mercer. In fact, I was his "big brother" in our fraternity. I hadn't seen Milton in a number of years, but had kept up with him through Carl. I felt a tremendous loss when I learned of his passing. I remember those Mercer days vividly, and I don't think I've ever met anyone who enjoyed life as much as Milton did. And he was a joy to be around -- intelligent, witty, and most of all kind and thoughtful. Please know that you all are in my prayers.

I was introduced to Milton by Jim Robinson and Carl Hayes, his college roommate. He was a giant of a man in personality and intelligence and comfortable in all circles. Dear Lori,
More than a few YPO friends called and e-mailed to share with me the sad news of Milton's passing. I wasn't even aware that he had been ill until last Friday. Circumstances, time and distance led us both down different paths since we were neighbors in the early 1980's.
I will write you a more personal note in the near future when I can gather my thoughts.
Please know that you are in my thoughts and prayers. Dieter joins me in expressing sadness about a brilliant life that ended too soon. Although our son, Morgan was too young to remember you and your family, I think of you often as I call his name. You were the first to know I was pregnant with him- even before I did - and your beautiful peach roses were the first thing I saw after he was born. Christy P. will sign my name in absentia at Milton's services.
Morgan and Whitney are also in our hearts and prayers as they try and cope with the enormity of their loss.

November 18, 2008

Dear Lisa, Whitney & Morgan,

In May of 1977, Attorney Ferrell prosecuted his last case as District Attorney for the City of Miami prior to joining his father’s law practice. This case involved two women who were carjacked from a church parking lot in broad daylight, kidnapped, and raped. I was one of them. Attorney Ferrell succeeded not only in getting a conviction for the person who raped us, but a conviction of six consecutive life sentences. Thanks to the incredible efforts of Attorney Ferrell, that person is still in prison today.

Throughout the pre-trial period and the trial, Attorney Ferrell was my hope, my support, and my strength. He was my hero when I was 17, and although many years have passed since then, he will always be my hero. I am so sorry for your incredible loss. I hope you find comfort knowing that there are people like me whose lives have been helped so very, very much by Attorney Ferrell. He will be missed tremendously.

It may sound strange, but Saturday night I dreamt of him, a funny time we shared together on a plane back in the mid eighties, traveling on a case together. I hope it was a message. He was a true friend and a rare human being. His spirit will be with us for all time ...and he will always hold a special place in my heart.

With love,

Barry and Camille Ross, Detournillon

I am truly saddened to hear of Milton's untimely passing. Although I've only had the priviledge of knowing Milton for a couple years on his trips to South Dakota, I considered him a good friend. I will greatly miss his intellect, wit, humor and that wonderful laugh. Although I've not met his family, I hope that all the wonderful memories they have of this remarkable person will in some measure sustain them through this time of grief. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

our deepest condolences to Lori, Morgan and Whitney. Milton was an old friend and could always count upon his help, wisdom and guidance.

Miami will sadly miss this great man. Way too young to leave this earth but he did God's work while here. He will be in our hearts and minds forever. Rest in peace Milton. Love The Angleton Family.

Dear Lori

I am stunned and saddened by the news of Milton's passing. I have so many wonderful memories over the years of being with both of you. Milton will forever be in my memories as one of Miami's most outstanding attorneys and "deal makers."

Know that you and your family will be in my thoughts and prayers in the coming days and weeks. I send my deepest sympathy to all of you. All of us will certainly miss Milton's warm and wonderful wit, engaging smile and great intellect.
