Oscar Willumsen Obituary

WILLUMSEN, OSCAR. Our hearts are heavy with the loss of Oscar Willumsen, husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, son, brother, beloved friend. Oscar was born on May 23, 1936 in Sƒo Paulo, Brazil, the son of Rudolph Willumsen and Esther Anderson Willumsen. At the age of 2 he moved to southern Brazil, where he remained until he married his High School sweetheart, Maria. They had two children, Sandra and Oscar Jr. In 1967, Oscar and Maria completed their college degrees in Economics. The following year, Oscar brought his family to his hometown, where he became a successful stock market broker and financial planner. In 1979 the family moved to the United States for Oscar and Maria to pursue their Ph.D. in Economics at Cornell University. After its completion in 1984, they moved to Miami, to pursue an academic career. Later on, Oscar started his own business. In 1985 Sandra married John Joice, with whom she had a daughter, Analisa, in 1987. Oscar Junior married Silvia Bolioli in 1986, and gave Oscar three grandchildren: Cecilia, Andrew and Daniella. Oscar's greatest passion was his grandchildren, who brought an incredible amount of joy to his life. With them, he spent his most treasured hours, introducing them to the joys of travel, music and family. In 2002 Sandra remarried and Oscar gained another son, Torsten Tyralla. In 2001 Oscar was forced to retire after a massive stroke from which, against all odds, he fully recovered. Since then, Oscar has given much of himself to the German American Social Club of Greater Miami, where he made many wonderful friendships. In 2006 Oscar suffered his second stroke from which he also fully recovered. Sadly, on May 13 he suffered a third stroke, following the replacement of his pacemaker/ defibrillator, from which he would not recover. Oscar is survived by his wife, children, grandchildren, by his brother Luis Carlos (Jongo) and two sisters, Maria Luiza (Nena) and Ada, and by his cousin Margit, and other relatives in Germany and Brazil. A lover of soccer, the outdoors, music and, above all, people, Oscar spread his smile and charmed those who met him. Oscar's wonderful spirit and strength of character will forever be in the hearts and minds of those who loved him. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 23, at 5:00 pm, at Saint Paul Lutheran Church, located at 10700 SW 56 Street. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Oscar's name to Saint Paul Lutheran Church for Feed the Poor or The Brazilian Mission Fund. The service will be followed by a gathering of friends and family to celebrate his life at the German American Social Club, located at 11919 SW 56th Street. Dear Maria and family,

I will miss Oscar's friendly smile, hugs and kisses. I will also miss watching him dance energetically on the dance floor. He loved to dance and it always showed. Oscar will always be close by watching over you. God bless you and your family.
