Robert ("Bob") Davis Jr.
May 15, 1936 - December 7, 2022
Miami Shores, Florida - Robert Huntington Davis Jr ("Bob") passed away at the age of 86 on December 7, 2022. He was the son of Bob and Sarah Davis and was born May 15, 1936 in Miami, Florida, one of the first to be born at Jackson Hospital, a fact for which he was very proud. He always remembered "Miamah" as a small town where planes were held for you at MIA and you could walk straight out to them. He remembered taking an hour to walk down Flagler Street because you had to stop and say hello to everyone. Bob attended high school in Chattanooga, TN at The Baylor School and earned his MBA from the University of Miami. During his time in college he served on the reserve police force of Miami Shores, and was a member of Kappa Sigma Fraternity. He belonged to The Bachelors' Club and met his wife at one of their dances. Seven short months later they were married and celebrated 56 wonderful years together. He founded Rampmaster, Incorporated. a south Florida manufacturing company with customers and products still in use all over the world. Bob always had a love for flying, earning his private pilot and instructor licenses. He even taught his children to fly. He would fly to work, fly to visit his children at their schools, fly all over the state to visit friends, or just fly to have lunch somewhere. One fateful day he crashed his plane in a grapefruit grove and spent 5 weeks in the burn unit at Jackson Hospital. Undeterred, he quickly bought another plane, and was flying again, even during his recovery. Bob was a member of the Quiet Birdmen, a pilot's organization, where he was the Beam Man for 5 years, writing a monthly article for their national magazine. He was also a member of the Marching and Chowder Society of Miami Shores (Clams) in which he served as Head Clam twice. He volunteered at Fairchild Tropical Botanic Gardens as a Weed Whisperer, which allowed him to be surrounded by the native Florida plants he loved. His creative talents were expressed in his beautiful paintings of Everglades scenes and the intricate details in his woodworking. Bob found joy in playing golf, sometimes barefoot and at great speeds. He even built his own golf clubs. He was a member of LaGorce Country Club and The Bath Club for many years. On his 80th birthday, he jumped out of perfectly good airplane and took his wife with him. He was loved by many and was affectionately known as "Daddy Davis". He is survived by his wife, Karen, and three children, Hunt (Paige), Jade (Greg Sluyter), and Penn (Michelle) and 8 grandchildren, Hunter, Graham & Blake Davis; Slone, Meyers, & Sarah Reid Sluyter; Kris & Kat Davis. He is pre-deceased by his parents and his brother, Al Davis, and survived by his sister-in-law, Shirley Davis, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Services will be held at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church on January 7, 2023 at 1 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Fairchild Tropical Botanic Gardens,10901 Old Cutler Rd, Coral Gables, FL 33156-4233 or Miami Birdmen, Inc., c/o C.
