Robert Litowitz Obituary

LITOWITZ, ROBERT of Miami Beach, FL, passed away peacefully at home on January 14, 2017, his wife and family at his side. Robert was born in Trenton, NJ on November 14, 1919 to Samuel and Hinda Litowitz and was raised by his paternal grandparents, Rabbi Simon (Zayde) and Celia (Bubbe) Litowitz. He attended Trenton public schools and graduated from Trenton High School in 1936. Robert attended Johns Hopkins University (1936-37), Cornell University (1937-39), and University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine, earning a DDS degree in 1943. After dental school graduation, Dr Robert Litowitz enlisted in the US Army, serving as a dentist, with rank of Captain, under command of Lieutenant General Ennis C. Whitehead in the 5th Army Air Corps in New Guinea and South Pacific during WW 2, from 1943-45. After the war, in Miami Beach, Dr Litowitz met, then married his lifelong mate, Donna Mae Balkan, in Trenton, NJ on June 23, 1946. Together, they went to Chicago, IL for Dr Litowitz to attend University of Illinois' Post-Graduate Orthodontic training program, then under chairmanship of Dr Allan G. Brodie. Upon completion, Dr and Mrs Robert Litowitz settled in Miami Beach, where they started his Orthodontic practice, raised their family, and lived together in a marriage of over 70 years. Dr Litowitz thoroughly enjoyed every day of his professional career, often singing to his Orthodontic patients gleefully. He was Past President of the East Coast District Dental Society, and Past President of the Florida Orthodontic Association (1959-60). Dr Litowitz also became a real estate developer, and he enjoyed the opportunity to contribute to the growth of Miami, working with his son, Budd. Dr Litowitz highly valued his family and friends. He had a most inquiring mind, asked good questions, and most patiently listened to others. He will be sorely missed by many. Dr Litowitz is survived by his wife, Donna Balkan Litowitz, their children, Dr Arthur N Litowitz, Mr Budd E. Litowitz, Ms Susan A. Litowitz, and their respective families that include eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Donations in Robert Litowitz's memory may be made to Friends of the Israeli Defense Forces Impact Scholarship Fund, 7700 Congress Ave., Suite 3207, Boca Raton, FL 33487 Services will be held on Tuesday, January 17, 2017 at 11:00 am at Blasberg Rubin Zilbert Memorial Chapel. 720 71st Street, Miami Beach, FL 33141 www.levitt-weinstein.com

Time has passed again. It seems like yesterday he was singing like crazy in the off. I so enjoyed his singing. He was a wonderful person and boss. Hello to all of you. Still think of you too!

I was thinking of Dr. Litowitz and telling my co-workers about how wonderful he was as a person and boss. I looked up his name and saw that he passed just recently. My heart goes out to all of you and He will be dearly missed. My thoughts are with all of you.

My deepest sympathies. May the God of all comfort strengthen the entire family during this time of sorrow. Keep in mind that God keeps in his memory those whom we lose because they are precious in his eyes. (Psalms 116:15)
