Ronald Baier Obituary

Ronald Anton Baier

September 7, 1943 - July 15, 2024

Orlando, Florida - Ronald Anton Baier, PE passed away early in the morning of July 15, 2024, in Orlando, Florida. Ron was born in Queens, New York on September 7, 1943. He attended public school in New York and graduated from Bayside High. After receiving a Bachelors Degree in Engineering from CCNY, he began working for Boeing at Cape Canaveral on the minuteman missile project. He told stories of his time at the cape and he was there when Apollo 11 lifted off for the moon. As luck would have it, later in life, he was fortunate enough to actually meet and shake hands with Buzz Aldren who was on that first moon landing mission. After his time at the cape was over, Ron attended the University of Florida where he received a Masters Degree in Engineering. Upon graduation Ron worked for several engineering firms in South Florida and he eventually opened his own firm, Baier Consulting Engineers. In the mid 1990's Ron joined the faculty of the Department of Construction Management at Florida International University, first as a adjunct then as an full time Instructor. Teaching was Ron's passion. He loved FIU and each and every one of his students. He retired in 2018 and was granted the title University Instructor Emeritus. Ron was a Third Degree Member of the Knights of Columbus and was also a member of MENSA. Ron was well liked by all of those that came to know him, and he will be greatly missed.Visitation on Monday evening, July 22nd, 2024, from 5:00 ~ 8:00 P.M. at Fred Hunter's Fort Lauderdale Home, 718 South Federal Highway. My grandmother, Theresia Gäckle (born Baier), told me she had a nephew named Ronny. What I have in common with Ronald is a passion for technology and flying. Unfortunately, I can no longer share this passion with him, and I find that sad.

Ronnie and I were childhood friend's. His home was directly across the street from mine on 218th Street in Bayside. He was the only child of loving , old-fashioned parents. I was the only guest he shared his swimming pool with when he was 9 and I was 7. (It was 4 foot by 8 foot.) We continued our friendship and enjoyed outings in the city as young adults. In 2010, he enjoyed the opportunity of catching up with old 218th Street friends at our son's wedding in Florida. We spoke from time-to-time, catching up on each other´s lives. He was truly a gentleman, a kind and gentle soul. He will be missed.

Oh my goodness... Oh Uncle Ron.. it was such a privilege to know you for my forty years on this earth and I am devastated to find out you have passed away. You were always like my father when I was growing up and I have so many wonderful memories to hold onto. I am at this point glad mom passed away last year because this would tear her apart to know you have gone. I am so thankful mom found your name in that phone book all those years ago and called trying to sell you some dinner at some hotel when she was sixteen. Out of that one decision in time, it spawned a fifty year friendship. We considered you the closest and dearest to our hearts all of our lives. My heart is shattered at the distance the states have given and getting back to Florida has been hard and regret on never being able to see you is inevitable. I will always remember all of us saying our goodbyes at Bennigans just before we moved up here to Montana in 98' and I will always remember your kindness towards us after mom's wreck and your calming voice when you were the first one I called after Grammy passed away. I will always remember answering the phone as a little girl and you would always say "hello, this is Ron Baier" and we would laugh as if we didn't know who you were! Always so professional sounding. I am thankful for every trip we took to Ft. Lauderdale to visit and I still hold them so dear in my memory. I love you so much Uncle Ron.. I am just devastated. You will be sincerely missed and will always hold a place in my heart as the most treasured man I ever knew. Rest in peace and my love always.

A true Gentleman in every way - it was an honour to have known him and called him my friend. Such a loss to so many whose lives he touched with his smile and kindness.
