Sara Stepner Obituary

STEPNER SARA JANE, 88, passed away peacefully at home on September 30, 2002. A resident of Miami Beach for more than 60 years, she was predeceased by her husband, A. Lester Stepner, M.D., she was a native of Cincinnati, Ohio. A founder and member of numerous civic organizations, her primary love was the flowers and plants of South Florida. She was instrumental in the establishment of Miami Beach Garden Center and Conservatory . She frequently traveled with U.S. Agriculture Department delegations to gather plant specimens in Central and South America. In addition, she was popular local and national cerified flower show judge. She is survived by her children, Barbara Skigen and Stephen (Emily) Stepner; grandchildren Deidre and Dr. Andrew (Dr. Cynthia) Skigen and Jennifer and Myles Stepner; great- grandson Jackson Skigen; and her loving caregiver Hyacinth Norris. Donations in her memory may be made to the Louis C. Fischer Alzheimer's Adult Day Care Center at Douglas Gardens, 5200 NW 2 Ave. Miami, Florida 33137. Graveside services 1:30 p.m., Thursday at Lakeside Memorial Park. For information call Riverside-Gordon Memorial Chapel 305-531-1151.
