Miami, Florida - Steven Robert Gaines, age 76, passed away peacefully on May 8,2021 with his family by his side at Jackson Memorial Hospital (the same hospital in which he was born). He is survived by his wife, Anita Gaines, and his siblings, Karen Siegall (nee Gaines) and Marc (Susanne) Gaines. Beloved step-father to Andy (Karen) Sarnow and Amy Sarnow, grandfather to Ava and Lola Sarnow, and uncle to Sara Tachman (nee Siegall), Evan Siegall, and Martha DeAmbrose (nee Gaines).
Steve was born and raised in Miami, Florida, and graduated from Coral Gables High School. After attending undergraduate and law school at the University of Florida, Steve built a successful career in real estate. Through his mid-forties, he owned and operated the 208-unit apartment complex, Continental Gardens. Together with his brother, Mark, Steve also founded the real estate development company, SunEquity Realty Group, Inc., of which he was the President. He also was an active member of the Florida Bar for more than fifty years.
Steve is remembered by many close friends and colleagues from Miami, and from the communities in which he later lived in Boca Raton, Florida and Newland, North Carolina. Steve had a zest for life and a mischievous sense of humor and especially enjoyed travel, antiques, politics, movies, and keeping up with family and friends. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
