What a magnificent human being! What a fabulous, funny, brilliant man! I was so lucky to know him and I will miss him dearly. I rented a casita from Steve in Santa Fe and we quickly became friends. We took a roadie to Marfa, renting a pickup truck and loading it up at an antique store in El Paso on the way back! You know Steve was always on the lookout for treaures. What an eye! What great laughter. I am so sorry he is gone.

for those of you who knew steve, the dynamo, in his years in the desert.. singlehandedly resurecting the hence named Beat Hotel and the Lautner Motel.. creating his world of art and design in a curated, and educational way... like no one else could... Steve's eye for design, architecture, art.. is undeniably incredible..
Steve had more knowledge, innovation, passion, and work ethic in his little finger than most people in their whole bodies.. he was a true visionary and as well a friend... his laugh was something I will never forget.. he is now with his friends in the Beat Hotel in the sky... but will be missed here on earth..

We laughed like the children we were that summer...the summer of "A Man and a Woman" and the '66 Mustang doing wheelies in The Grove, Aretha wailing in the background. It was the best. I guess the jasmin and the baybreeze done got you.
Love to all of us from Then.
