Rabbi Tibor H. Stern

STERN, RABBI TIBOR H. (SHMUEL TUVIA), Born May 14, 1920 in Shatra-Oihel Hungary. Deceased February 1, 2004, Miami Beach Florida. Rabbi Stern was a renowned Torah scholar and internationally revered author of over 35 volumes of scholarly works and Torah publications. He began his Rabbinic service when he served for 10 years in Kansas City Missouri at Congregation Kerem Israel, as well as Beth Israel in Oakland California. He arrived in Florida in 1955 first as a pulpit Rabbi in his own synagogues, Beth Jacob Congregation and Jacob C. Cohen Community Synagogue in Miami Beach and most recently as spiritual leader of congregation Chevra Shas of Tower 41 in Miami Beach. He held the position Chief Dayan of the Miami Beach religious community for many years. Rabbi Stern was instrumental in the development of the Miami Beach Eruv and Mikvah. He served with distinction for decades as director of Kashruth for Conn Agra and Hebrew National products as well as numerous other corporations and as such he was responsible for the dissemination of kosher food to hundreds of thousands of individuals around the world. He held the title of Honorary President for Life of the Agudas Harabonim of the United States of America. He served as mentor to the Lubavitch Kollel Rabbinical College and Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Rabbi Stern was associated with dozens of philanthropic charities particularly Bikur Cholim hospital in Israel. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Idelle (Chayelle) Stern, his daughters Rochelle Kevelson of Lawrence N.Y., Joyce (Alan) Genuaer of Los Angeles, California, Tikva (Rabbi Simcha) Lyons of New York, NY, and Judy (Dr. Sam) Sugar of Skokie, IL as well as 14 grandchildren and 34 great grandchildren.
