I drank in Tony's Saloon many a day and night. He gave me my first break from a Street Vendor on to Private Property renting me his porch. He essential started my career as a rent paying Jewelry entrepreneur and was VERY fair with me. I supported him in Politics and He was a mentor. RIP Goombah.

I meet Capt. Tony many times in the past few years and he always remembered me. He told me a lot of stories and signed a lot of things for me. He gave me hope for making your dreams comes true. The last time I saw him was a month before he passed. Thank you for that last kiss. I will be there this week coming up but it won't be the same not seeing your wonderful face to greet me. I will never forget you!!

Captain Tony,
My wife and I met you in Oct. 2004 while visiting for a close friends wedding. I thanked you for opening the greatest bar that I have yet discovered. We talked for a few minutes and we listened like school children to your stories.
You will be missed for a long, long time to come. Godspeed my friend.

I am presently reading the book about Capt Tony. It's a good read and has great insites into Capt Tony. I was stationed in Key West in the mid 1960's at Sonar School and remember his boat well. The book mentions how people liked to view the days catch at the dock. This is true, and Capt Tony was one of the best.

The meeting of Capt. Tony was and is one of the greatest moments in our life.
It was May 19, 1985, my wife and I had wanted to get married but for one reason or another we could never get our families and friends together at the right time, so we decided to elope to Key West where we had great plans for a sun rise wedding by a local Justice of the Peace. When we got to Key West it was early afternoon and very hot so we decided a trip to Old Town was in order. Excited by the fact we were getting married the next day we stopped in to Capt Tony's Saloon to cool our thirst and get out of the heat. To our surprise there were numerous pictures of Jimmy Buffett on the walls and being big FANS Capt Tony saw our interest and pointed out a few facts about his relationship with Jimmy and what good friends they were. It wasn't long before my wife and I decided this was the place we wanted to get married. Since nothing in our wedding plans were normal my wife ask Capt Tony To be her Maid Of Honor and I ask the Barmaid, Debbie Burton to be my Best Man. We called the notory and the wedding was set for as soon as she could get there. As the wedding was taking place a crowd was gathering, although nobody was being served drinks because Capt Tony and the barmaid were in the service. The wedding concluded and Capt Tony toasted us with his private stock which he allowed us to drink liberally from. We spent many hours that day listening to the stories Capt Tony had to tell. As we parted the Saloon that evening Capt Tony gave use a few gifts of the material kind but the most important gift he gave use was his "Salty Friendship" which helped my wife and I carry on for 23 years. Capt Tony will be missed by the both of us and our prayers will be with the Families and Friends who will miss him has much as we will.
Capt Tony you have just begun another story in your Pirate Life.
With love and respect
Rianna Perry

Legacy, if ever a more appropriate person to be listed in a book of Legacy. One more last little bit of of Key West gone forever, but his legacy will live on. I see him now enjoying a good Cuban cigar, a stiff drink, telling his favorite joke while grabbing a lady who has sat near by. Party on Capt! Sail on Sailor.

I had the good fortune to meet Captain Tony only once. That was when my boyfriend and I were on our 10th trip to Key West this past May. We have affectionately called Key West our 2nd home and always visit Captain Tony's when we are there and always try to get a quarter in the fish's mouth. We mustered up the courage to approach Captain Tony and ask him if he would take a picture with us. He was very nice and was looking forward to a trip to Las Vegas in the next few weeks/months. I hope he had the chance to go on his trip. We are saddened to find out about Captain Tony's passing and wish him a safe and happy journey. He will truly be missed.

Found out about Tony's passing Saturday night, 11/15. I also buried my father this morning at 11:00am in Penna. Key West became my favorite vacation site starting back in 2004. We visited his bar twice since but was never lucky enough to meet him in person. I learned of him through Jimmy Buffett's songs, books and the video Tony did about Key West and his life there. As a matter of fact I learned of his passing from the Margaritaville website.
He will be missed by those that did know him, as I missed my opportunity to meet an icon and important part of Key West.
The Capt. was kind enough to sign this picture which is now framed and hanging in my home.

Captain Tony's is always a "must-visit" spot for me when my wife and I go down to Key West. The Capt. and his place are legendary so I consider it a lucky occurance
to meet Capt. Tony during one of my Key West adventures. He was very gracious and friendly to my wife and I and treated us as if we were old friends. It is no wonder why he will remain legendary.

We first met Captain Tony in October 2007. We had a wonderful time with him at our table by the tree in Captain Tony's. He spent about 20 minutes with us in between other fans and friends, telling us great jokes, stories and letting us take a few photos. I hope he made it to Las Vegas. We were looking forward to seeing Capt. Tony again at his book signing during the 2008 MOTM. We were in Key West when we heard the sad news. Our deepest condolences to his wife and all of the family.

Nov. 5, 2008. I have been a Jimmy Buffett fan for years, seeing him sing in a bar in Atlanta before I had ever heard of him...I am 56 now and have seen the days of getting concert tickets on the day of the concert to sell-outs right after they started selling online...two of my most memorable times of my life have been the day my daughter and I walked in to Capt. Tony's in Key West and he was in there. He signed a pack of matches he was using and gave them to her, with a kiss. She has it framed in her home now. The other was about 5 years ago, and I had my husband to take a picture of Capt. Tony and I and it is one of my most treasured pics. I have made sure all 3 of my children and all 7 of my grandchildren are parrotheads, and all of them know Capt. Tony. It was a sad day for me when I read of his death....a legend never dies....

November 6, 2008
Captain Tony, on his 90th birthday gave a speech at Salute' which included stories of his past, comparisons of now and then , and observations only he himself could convey, and his uncertainty of things to come . But the one thing I took away from the night was a short statement that summed it all up for me.
"Take care of each other."
See you on the horizon Captain.

Dear Marty & all of Tony's Family, I was so saddened to hear of Tony's passing. Please know all of us (LiCata's) are thinking of you...You know I can just see Louie at the piano, Sal on the organ, Joey playing the washboard & Tony dancing up the aisle to the tune of When the Saints come Marching in....No man is an island,
Entire of itself.
Each is a piece of the continent,
A part of the main.
If a clod be washed away by the sea,
Europe is the less.
As well as if a promontory were.
As well as if a manner of thine own
Or of thine friend's were.
Each man's death diminishes me,
For I am involved in mankind.
Therefore, send not to know
For whom the bell tolls,
It tolls for thee.

My condolences. The captain was a special man who cared deeply for his fellow man (and women).
Tony helped to keep Mallory Square going as a venue for artists and as he shared with me, he had an early exposure to prejudice which affected him deeply and made him sensitive to people.

I'll never forget stopping by Capt. Tony's Saloon with my English-born RAF WWII veteran Father during a trip for his 70th birthday in 1996 from our home near Washington, D.C. (He's 82 now). I stapled my business card near the edge of the 'Eyes That Care' mural facing the pool table and it was still there when I checked years later. Tony will be greatly missed, even by those who never met him, but he certainly didn't get cheated, a life well-lived.

I remember in 2005 I met Capt Tony at his bar. The following year, I was in KW and just dropped in for a beer, and as I was sitting at the bar, I heard a car pull up and the door close. I looked up to see Capt Tony standing next to me picking up a soda. I about fell on the floor. I will always cherish seeing him, and oh my lord, the blue eyes! Thanks Capt Tony! Sail on Capt, sail on.
