Eugene Wellman Obituary

Gene Wellman passed peacefully February 17, 2024 at the age of 97.

Born in McCloud, CA October 20, 1926 to Hiram and Alice Wellman, he graduated from McCloud High School, completed Naval Pre-flight training just as WWII ended, and continued in the Naval Reserves program.

On August 28, 1948, he married Genevieve Vowell and worked as a Medical Technologist at the Corvallis Clinic. In 1963, he moved his wife and two daughters to Klamath Falls to teach Medical Technology at Oregon Tech. By the late 1960's, Gene was helping to develop a degree program in Air and Water Quality Control at OTI. With founding colleagues Bill Bradford and Wally Richartz, and later, Ed Butchino, he ran a successful consulting and testing service from which he retired in December of 1990. He was honored in 1994 by induction into the Source Evaluation Society Hall of Fame, glad to have made a meaningful contribution to clean air in the Pacific Northwest, and beyond.

An avid sailor, Gene served as commodore for Klamath Yacht Club, and skippered many bare-boat charters in the Caribbean with wife and friends. By the time Gene and Genevieve could no longer travel, they had visited 40 countries and set foot on every continent except Antarctica.

Gene is survived by two daughters, two grandchildren, and three great grandchildren.

In accordance with his wishes, no formal services will be held.
