Glen Bowles Obituary

Glen Bowles died on Nov. 29, 2009.
He was born on April 1, 1917, on a homestead seven miles east of Ignacio, Colo., to Jess and Anna Bowles.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Rose Bowles; sisters, Louella Petrie, Lois Roberts, Louisa Macy and Vivian Dunsworth; and brothers, Woodford Bowles and Ben Bowles.
Survivors include his sister, Maxine Payne, and daughter, Marlene Northcraft.
Glen always loved music and, as a boy, was seldom seen without a harmonica in his pocket. He played around with the organ, accordion, harmonica, guitar and keyboard.
Glen served for almost five years in the Army during World War II from 1940 to 1945 in New Guinea and the Philippines. He was given his basic training at Camp Forest in Tennessee. Glen was a cook in the service and at Camp Roberts, Calif., was the first cook for the officers mess.
He wrote lots of poetry and was usually published in the Today's Seniors section of the Herald and News. He was a life member of The National Library of Poetry and the International Society of Poets. He was published in their Poets Corner publication as well as several books they published. He was put online and has around 150 poems online on the computer.
His hobbies included dancing, metal detecting, fishing, photography, gardening, computer, music and poetry writing. He self published four poetry books.
He would like to leave his parting poem with an everlasting love for all of mankind, "Just Next Door."
A life celebration for Glen Bowles will be conducted at Eternal Hills Funeral Home at 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 3.
