John Owens Obituary

John Owens of Red Bluff, California and Fort Klamath, Oregon, passed away on October 6, 2025 after suffering from a stroke. Born in 1948, he was raised in a ranching family and dedicated his life to livestock and the land he loved. A graduate of Red Bluff High School (1966) and Chico State (1970, Agribusiness), John played football, judged livestock, and built a lifelong career as a respected cattleman.

In 1973, John married the love of his life, Candy, and together they raised two sons, Nathan (Nicole) and Bryan (Sheena). He was endlessly proud of his children and grandchildren-Ally, Macy, Ceinna, Marek, and Jack-and treasured time spent watching them play sports, and work cattle.

John was deeply involved in his community and the cattle industry. He began volunteering at the Red Bluff Bull and Gelding Sale as a teenager, later serving as its president (2011-2019) and earning numerous honors from organizations he was a part of including Tehama County Cattlemen's , California Cattlemen's, Tehama County Farm Bureau, The Elk's Lodge, and American Stewards of Liberty.

He is survived by his wife, Candy; sons, Nathan and Bryan; brother, Kenneth (Sheree, niece, Lacy, nephew, Roy); and many extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Elaine, and his brother, David.

A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, October 19, 2025 at 1:00 pm at the Elks Lodge in Red Bluff, California.
