Larry Paul Lund

1934 - 2025

Larry Paul Lund passed away peacefully in Redding, California, on June 30, 2025.

Larry was born to Paul Knute Lund and Jennie Lenaya Lund in Ione, Washington, on June 9, 1934. His family moved to Klamath Falls when he was young, and Larry grew up loving the outdoors and hunting and fishing at every opportunity. Larry graduated from Klamath Union High School in 1953. After receiving a bachelor's degree in Biology from Southern Oregon State College in 1957, Larry volunteered for the Army and served two years in Dugway, Utah, as a Biology Science Assistant.

Larry's entire career was devoted to public education; he taught at Merrill High School, Klamath Union, and Mazama, where he transitioned into administration and served as Assistant Principal. Larry cared deeply for his students and worked to give them every opportunity to reach their potential.

In 1983, Larry married Barbara Custer Stevenson and spent many happy years with her traveling, playing cribbage, and enjoying nature. Larry was an avid hunter and was passionate about sharing his love of the outdoors with his family and friends.

Larry was preceded in death by his wife Barbara, his parents, his siblings, Gordon Lund, Sr., Genevieve Alexander, and Juanita Schoenthaler, and his nephew, Gordon Lund, Jr. He is survived by his nephew, Kyle Schoenthaler, his nieces, Janis Thurston, Laurie Adams, and Terry Alexander, eight great nieces and nephews, and his stepchildren, Cathy Cunningham, Scott Stevenson, and Amy Fox.

Because of their devotion to public education, Larry and Barbara established a scholarship fund with the Oregon Community Foundation to benefit graduates of public high schools in Klamath County. Since 2006 more than one hundred local students have benefited from their generosity, and the Larry and Barbara Lund Scholarship Fund will continue to fulfill their life's work of helping young people achieve their dreams.
