Nicholas "Nick" Carl Huffman, 28, went to be with our Lord on Sunday, Dec. 28, 2008, with his loving wife and family by his side at St. Charles Medical Center in Bend, Ore.
Nicholas was born on Feb. 5, 1980, in Klamath Falls, Ore. He loved growing up with his sister, brother and parents on the family farm in Tulelake.
He had an infectious smile and enjoyed life to the fullest.
Nick excelled in academics, sports, 4-H and FFA and achieved many awards in each. He grew up surrounded by a large loving family who enjoyed being together and, when not together, traveled to be together. Family time included camping trips, snowmobiling, skiing, fishing, enjoying the outdoors and so much more.
After graduating from Tulelake High School in 1998, he attended Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. Following college, he returned home and became an integral part of the family farming operation: Huffman Brothers.
In 2001, he met his "soul-mate" Haley Morgan. The couple was joined in marriage on Aug. 3, 2002. Wanting to spend more time with Haley than farming would allow, he chose to change careers by working for his new in-laws Jerry and Debbie Morgan at Boyd's Wholesale Meats. The couple purchased a new home in Klamath Falls, Ore.
Wishing to return to the outdoors, Nick pursued his education by attending Oregon Institute of Technology, majoring in geomatics. He was anticipating graduation with a bachelor of science degree as an honor student in March of 2009.
He was employed by WHPacific as a survey technician and recently attained his California LSIT certification. Nicholas was active in the community, proud to have achieved the 3-gallon mark as an American Red Cross blood donor and thrilled to be a referee for youth and high school football.
His devotion to his wife gained him immediate acceptance into her family as one of their own. They considered him to be their source of strength and he easily became their "rock" as they admired all of his attributes. Nick was excited to join the family's church and was confirmed in the Catholic Church in the spring of this year.
Nick and Haley had a special love between them that so many other couples seek, yet never find. They were always together side by side and thoroughly loved the time they spent in each other's company. They enjoyed going to movies, concerts and dinners out, weekends away, being with friends and family, watching the San Francisco 49ers and just hanging around home together with their family of four dogs and a cat.
As in his favorite movie "It's a Wonderful Life," Nicholas touched so many people during his life. Everyone who met him knew he was someone special and recognized his big heart and giving spirit. Nick's generosity is exemplified now more than ever by his giving the ultimate gift of life as he became an organ and tissue donor for up to 150 individuals. Those around him were honored to have watched him play, grow, learn and love. He believed everybody deserves to have that same chance. And as in that old Christmas movie, our very own special angel has now received his wings and sits beside our God in Heaven watching over us forever and always.
His surviving family includes his adored wife Haley Huffman and their beloved pets; father and mother Otto and Judy Huffman, Tulelake; father-in-law and mother-in-law Jerry and Debbie Morgan, Klamath Falls; sister and brother-in-law Erica and Scott Carroll; brother, sister-in-law and nephew Ryan, Amber and Nathaniel Huffman, all of Tulelake; brother-in-law BJ Morgan, Klamath Falls; grandmothers Barbara Fayne and Nancy Huffman, Tulelake, Shirley Micka, Merrill; grandmother-in-law Betty Morgan, Klamath Falls; grandparents-in-law John and Barbara Powell, Keno; aunts and uncles Cindy and Dave Pollock, Grants Pass, Susie and Kevin Sword, Star, Idaho, Denise and Galen Schuster, Spokane, Wash., Gary Wright, Matt and Debbie Huffman, Tim Huffman, Tulelake, Charlie and Diane Huffman, Caldwell, Idaho, Rita Huffman, Willits, Calif., Steve and Bettimarie Hampton, Larry and Elaine Powell, Klamath Falls, Sharon Powell, Australia; cousins Tara, Matt, Trako, Tayla, Heath, Heather, Colten, Cabella, Tiffany, Chelsea, Warren, Connor, Michelle, Jerry, Drew, Greg, Pam, Jennifer, Paul, Caitlen and Sarah; numerous great-aunts, great-uncles and friends. His special friends include Matt Byrne, Trevor Cushman, Tomas Melzner, Jens Kober, and Miho Arai.
In lieu of flowers, special funds have been set up in Haley's name at Premier West Bank, P.O. Box 789, Tulelake, CA 96134, and Sterling Savings Bank, 2420 Dahlia St., Klamath Falls, O

Our Aunt Nola just called to tell us of the passing of Nick. After reading his obituary we were left tearful by the many testaments to his accomplishments, high standards, love for life, and dedication to family. What a close and loving family he had! Dear Huffman Family:
Most sincere sympathies to you all at the passing of Nick. I so fondly remember the High School graduation party at your home when he and Matt graduated. I also recently enjoyed dinner out with he and Haley while visiting Matt in Sac. I can only imagine how difficult this time is for you all but know that friends and family are always there for you in times of need. Bless you all.

I was fortunate to get to know Nick as a student in the Geomatics program at OIT. He was very professional and personable in his ways and he is going to be missed. The surveying community has lost a treasured member. May the love of friends and family carry you through your grief.
