Catherine Clark Obituary
Catherine Alice Elizabeth Clark
January 22, 1996 - May 30, 2025
Catherine Alice Elizabeth Clark, also known as Catie or Clark, died peacefully at the University of Virginia Medical Center Coronary Care Step Down Unit in Charlottesville, VA after a 7-week intense battle for her life, having contracted an aggressive bacterial infection. Catherine was from Abingdon, VA and formerly of Orange, CT. Catie leaves behind to celebrate her life, her mother Susanne and twin brother Noah Clark of Orange, CT, her godmother Sister Catherine Sheehan, DW of Oakdale, NY, her fur baby Nessie, 2 uncles and 3 cousins in addition to many other Clark relatives and innumerable friends. She also leaves her friends and teachers from Amity Regional High School class of 2014, her friends and professors from Muhlenberg College class of 2018, her colleagues and friends from the Barter Theatre and the community in Abingdon, VA and many more who in someway touched her life, and cared for and about her. She was predeceased by her maternal grandmother Maureen Wayand Clark and in January of 2025 her grandfather, her Papa, Donald F. Clark.
Catie was born in New Haven, CT along with her brother on Monday, January 22, 1996. From the moment she took her first breath she was a force to be reckoned with. Born with complex congenital heart defects, she endured multiple life-threatening procedures and survived. She was reserved with whom she shared her medical history wishing to be defined by her talents and spirit, not her medical condition.
Catie's dream was to use her artistic talents to their fullest and live independently and she did just that. At the time of her death, she was employed at the Barter Theatre as Master Craftsperson/Barter Player Prop Master. We will all remember her incredible artistic talents, her writing, her wit and her occasional lack of filter! She was described by a former teacher as committed to excellence, confident, focused and unflappable.
Her mother would like to thank the medical teams, nurses, respiratory therapists, social workers and others who cared for both Catie and Susanne during this difficult time and to Father Daniel Hackenjos who provided spiritual guidance and support. She would also like to thank the Daughters of Wisdom and their world-wide power of prayer, The Orange Congregational Church members and all the others who prayed for Catie.
A funeral mass will be celebrated by Father Hackenjos at Holy Infant Church, 450 Racebrook Road, Orange, CT on Thursday, June 12th at 11a. A celebration of Life will take place on Sunday, June 29th at 7p at The Smith Stage at Barter Theatre, 110 W. Main Street, Abingdon, VA. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Barter Theatre in Clark's name.
