Glenda Faye Sands Maine

Glenda Faye Sands Maine, age 79, of Bristol, Va., passed away on Wednesday, October 20, 2021, at Bristol Regional Medical Center.

She was a native of Wise County, Va., and a graduate of Coeburn High School. Following her marriage in 1962, she moved to the Northern Virginia area where she and her husband raised their family. She returned to the mountains in 2004 and lived in Washington County, Va., ever since. Glenda was a very active member of the Bell-Walsh Order of the Eastern Star #65, Bristol, #28 and also Three Springs United Methodist Church. She loved to travel, visiting Canada, Hawaii, and Israel as well as many states here in the U.S. Glenda also had a passion for collecting recipes.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William Basil and Wilma McCall Sands; a daughter, Suzanne Elizabeth Maine; a granddaughter, LiAnne Davis; three sisters, Margie, twin sister, Brenda and Billie; and two brothers, Dan and James. Survivors include her husband of almost 59 years, Earl Maine; son, Edward (Gail) Maine of ORO Valley, Ariz.; daughter, Sonia (Michael) O'Dell of Oviedo, Fla.; two grandsons, Tyler Maine and Luke O'Dell; granddaughter, Hope O'Dell; sister, Mary Allsbrook; brother, Dennis Sands, and many beloved nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m., Saturday, October 30, 2021, in Akard Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Terry Fleenor officiating. Burial will follow at 3 p.m., Saturday at Temple Hill Memorial Park in Castlewood, Va. The family will receive friends from 12 until 1 p.m., Saturday prior to the service.
