J.R. "Bob" Smith

J.R. "Bob" Smith, age 88, of Bristol, Va., went to be with the Lord on August 12, 2022, at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on October 15, 1933, in Bristol, Va., a son of the late Clarence D. Smith and Georgia Mae Roberts Smith.

Bob has been a pillar of the community for many years. He is deeply appreciated for his kindness and generosity. Greatly admired for his hard work and dedication, which built him a very successful business for over 30 years, J.R. "Bob" Smith Oil Company Inc. He was well respected for his business expertise and financial diligence. He has accomplished many things in life, but his greatest accomplishment has been his love and provision for his family.

He was a wonderful Husband, Daddy, GrandDaddy, Great GrandDaddy, Brother, Uncle, and Friend, and will be missed by all who knew and loved him. Mr. Smith served our nation in the United States Navy and was a Korean War Veteran. He was a member of NorthStar Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by his first wife, Atha Deane Hughes Smith; great-granddaughter, Hannah Faith Boutwell; brothers, Homer Smith and Jim Smith; and sisters, Gray Rasnake and Betty Smith Winter. Left behind to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 16 years, Rosalie Smith; daughter, Melissa Robin Smith Bouck and husband, Richard; granddaughters, Hollyava Smith, Deidra Blevins, and Summer Boutwell and husband, Rodney; grandson, Ricky Bouck; great-grandsons, Gabriel Boutwell and Logan Bouck; great granddaughter, Jalynn Bouck; brother, Don Smith and wife, Janet; sister-in-law, Eleanor Smith; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service for J.R. "Bob" Smith will be held Monday, August 15, 2022, at 7 p.m. in the Weaver Funeral Chapel with Dr. Bill Houck officiating. The family will receive friends from 5 until 6:45 p.m. prior to the service. The entombment will be held Tuesday, August 16, 2022, at 11 a.m. in the Mountain View Mausoleum with military honors rendered by DAV Post 39. Honorary pallbearers will be special friends, Richard Bouck, Dean Smith, Ricky Bouck, David Slagle, Tim Slagle, Jason Slagle, Rodney Boutwell, Cody Moore, Josh Slagle, Evan Slagle, Jim Hughes, Bert Portugais, Doug Rumery, Kenny Moore, Nick Slagle and Pete Curico.

The family sends a special thanks to Dr. Charles Bolick, Dr. Laddie Crisp, and Dr. Mark Smith for their loving care and support.
