Nathan Willis Obituary

Dr. Nathan Dale Willis, D.D.S.

February 16, 1961 - December 23, 2020

Dr. Nathan Dale Willis, age 59, of Bluff City, Tenn., went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, December 23, 2020. He was born on February 16, 1961, in Rogersville, Tenn.

Dale grew up in Knoxville, Tenn., and graduated from Central High School in 1979. He continued his education as a biology major at the University of Tennessee, graduating in 1983, and then earned his Doctorate of Dental Surgery from the University of Tennessee Health Science Center in Memphis in 1987.

Upon graduation from dental school, Dale was commissioned as an officer in the United States Army. He served honorably as a Captain in the Dental Corps, with postings at Camp Casey, Republic of Korea; Fort Benning, Ga., and Fort Campbell, Ky. After his military service, Dale moved to Bristol, Tenn., and began his lifelong career as a dentist and eventually as a partner with Alamont Dental Association.

Dale married Kristina Ann Reecher in 1994. Together, they raised three boys, Ian, 23, a graduate of Samford University, Nathan, 22, a graduate of the University of Tennessee, and Dawson, 18, currently serving his first year of an appointment to the United States Coast Guard Academy.

Dale was well-known for service and philanthropy. He was a charter member of Discovery Church in Bristol where he served as Chairman of Elders. He was a Fellow in the American College of Dentistry; a Fellow in the International College of Dentists; and a Fellow in the Academy of General Dentistry. Dale served on the Board of Directors for the Christian Medical and Dental Association; as President of the Board at the Bristol YMCA; and as a Cub Scout Pack Leader. He was a member of Kiwanis Club and volunteered at Healing Hands Health Center. In 2015, Dale won the Dr. Sig Gruenwald Humanitarian Service Award from the Tennessee Academy of General Dentistry. He has completed numerous medical mission trips to serve others, and he has been recognized for service by countless organizations.

Survivors include his wife of 26 years, Kristina Reecher Willis; sons, Ian Willis and wife, Jessany, Nathan Willis, and Dawson Willis; "adopted" son, Drew White and wife, Morgan; father, John D. "Dee" Willis; sister, DeAnne Teague and her children, Chloe and Callie Teague; parents-in-law, Richard and Penny Reecher; sister-in-law and family, Stephanie, Kyle, Daniel, and Adam Sobke; and brother-in-law and family, Eric, Lisa, Jenna, Brady, and Marian Reecher. He was preceded in death by his mother, Nancy Livesay Willis.

Dale will be well-remembered for his boundless Christian faith and his infinite dedication to Jesus Christ. He had a laugh which was loud, infectious, and well-known in many circles. Dale was a man of many passions and talents, including exercise, boating, woodworking, golf, travel, old movies, HUGE meals, mowing his fields on his tractor, and working on projects around his property. He loved Kristina, Ian, Nathan, and Dawson with all his heart, body, mind, and soul.

The funeral service will be private in the Weaver Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Matt Korell officiating and will be livestreamed to the public at 1 p.m. Tuesday, December 29, 2020, at www.oneroomstreaming.com Event ID: WeaverFH Password: IYOPBP. Dr. Willis was my dentist for about 3 or 4 years when I lived in VA. His smile and his laughter showed his amazing spirit. I liked to make him laugh and I remember hearing him laugh even when he was in another room. I was so sad when I heard about his accident. My thoughts and my prayers are with his family and friends.

Very sorry to hear about your loss, everyone's loss. For the 8 or 9 years that I've done service work at the office and the small amount of work at his residence last summer, he was always an A1 person and I valued our professional relationship for the short period of time that I knew him. My thoughts and prayers are with his family. The community and family lost a great man too soon.

To Miss Kristina,Ian,Nathan and Dawson...I am so sorry for your loss.Praying for love, peace and healing I have known Dr Willis for 26 years. Dr Willis had a smile that would light up a room,he had a laugh that was so contagious... I found myself laughing and wouldn't know what I was laughing about! He had such a kind soul! I just have to tell this quick story... after Dr Willis did my surgery,as I was coming down the hall toward my room,I could hear this laugh echoing through the halls,as we entered my room Lord and behold... there stood Dr Willis with my parents. He stayed in my room most of the day, just making sure I was okay and didn't need anything, to make sure Mom and Dad didn't need anything. After talking and getting to know Dr Willis...from that moment on I knew that I was in the presence of my Guardian Angel! I will always treasure his friendship, his love, kindness and most important his love for Jesus Christ Our Savior! RI

The week before Christmas at my dental appointment Dr. Willis was working on my teeth and was telling me about his Dad being able to spend Thanksgiving with him he said it was such a good feeling having his Dad close and to be all together as a family. And of course loved the fact his Dad had a sweet tooth. That brought such laughter from Dr. Willis I will always remember his awesome laughter it always put me at ease! Dr. Willis took such great care of my mother in law Mary with her Bridge work. At 99 yrs young he handle her with kid gloves. It always amazed me how delicately he handled her. I had just given him this picture framed he was so moved his eyes watered as he sent a hug to her.
We will miss you Dr. Willis not only were you our dentist but a good friend who shared God with us and invited us to church.
Ken and I along with Mary will miss you so much. I can almost hear your laughter in Heaven.
We are Praying and Lifting up the Willis Family.
Love, The Robinson´s

My whole family is just devastated. So many of my family and friends were his patients. My most precious memory of him is looking up at my mother´s funeral and seeing him sitting there. She wasn´t even his patient but he was there for my sister and me. My sister although living in Alabama still came back to him for her dental work. He felt like family and we are truly heart broken with you. You will remain in our prayers . My husband also passed on December 23, 1968, and like Dr. Willis, he was also a devoted Christian.
