Nellie Jean Summers Long, age 87, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on June 13, 2024, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born December 29, 1936, to Charlie and Anna Summers of Exeter, VA. She moved to Bristol with her husband, Bob, in 1956 and was a life-long resident.

Nell was preceded in death by her loving husband of 65 years, Bob (Buddy) Long; her son, Tony Long; and granddaughter, Lindsey Maiden; her siblings, Earl Summers, Glen Summers, Billy Summers, Jimmy Summers, Gary Summers, Sonny Summers, Louise Morelock, Brenda Johnson and Darlene Varner.

She leaves behind her loving children, Debra Rosenbaum (Harry), of Bristol, TN, Dennis Long (Laureen), of Kingsport, TN, Tobi Cunningham (Ira), of St. Augustine, FL, Lisa Maiden (Darrin), of Bristol, TN; her grandchildren, Deanna Thompson (Kenny), Jon Rosenbaum, Carly Greenwell and Cody Maiden (Skyler); her great-grandchildren, Macey and Lucas Thompson; her siblings, Velva Stephens (Raz), Karen Johnson (Hershel), Judy Butler, Robert Summers; several nieces and nephews; special caregiver, Katherine Wingo; and special friend, Dallas Banks.

Nell was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Bristol for many years, where she served in many capacities. She especially loved to work in the church nursery with the babies. She loved the Lord with all her heart and was a faithful servant.

The funeral will be held at 6 p.m., on Tuesday, June 18, 2024, in the Weaver Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Randall Morton officiating. The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m., prior to the service. The committal service and interment will be held at 10 a.m., on Thursday, June 20, 2024, at the VA Mountain Home Cemetery in Johnson City, TN.
