POTTSBORO – Don Lewis Herd lost his courageous battle with Lou Gehrig's disease on Monday, June 25, 2012 at the age of 69, at his home.

The family will be at Bratcher Funeral Home for visitation from 6 -7:30 p.m., Wednesday, June 27, 2012.

Don was born on June 10, 1943 in Denison, Texas to Lewis and Opal Herd. He married Audrey Foster on June 15, 1965 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Denison.

He was a 1961 graduate of Denison High School, studied architecture at Draughton's Business College in Dallas, attended Grayson College studying business law and real estate. He was a general contractor most of his life, building beautiful homes and remodeling. He was a partner in ice plants, installed swimming pools and spas and was an insurance adjuster. After semi-retirement, he went to work at the Prothro Retreat Center, along with his wife Audrey and formed loving relationships with his dear friend and boss Cliff Dyer and all of his co-workers. Don was a very talented artist, loved baseball, fishing, raising bluebirds and nature in general.

Anyone who knew Don enjoyed his witty sense of humor, and his laughter was contagious. He lived a life of caring, giving his all and deep love for his family.

Don is survived by his wife, Audrey; father, Lewis Herd; sister Margaret Atnip and husband T. J. of Denison; sons, LCPL Justin Herd of Camp Lejeune, N.C., Dale and Clay Herd of Denison; brother-in-law, Bob Foster of Denison; niece, Denise Selover of Dallas; nephews, Larry of Rowlett, David Atnip of Idabell, Okla., Cory Foster of Denison, and their extended families. Don has five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his mother Opal Herd and his grandparents.

Arrangements are entrusted to Bratcher Funeral Home, 401 W. Woodard St., Denison, TX 75020, (903) 465-2323. Online condolences may be made to the family at www.bratcherfuneralhome.com.

Audrey & Justin, this is what I think Don would say to you.
A Note from Heaven
If I could write from Heaven, this is what I'd say, Please don't miss me too much, I'm with you throughout your day. You may not see or hear me, but if you're quiet and still, You may just feel my presence; because, in Heaven, there is free will. Don't worry for the day, it will come and go as planned, Enjoy each moment you are given, keep worry from your hand. Keep sorrow to minimum; For if Heaven you could see, You'd know I'm safe and happy, I did not cease to be. Moments in time are brief, until we'll be together again, as Eternity lasts forever, our lives, they have no end.
God Bless Your Family,
Troy & Dianna Hooper
