Douglas Stonebarger Obituary

SHERMAN - Funeral services for Douglas Thomas "Stonie" Stonebarger will be held at 2 p.m. Monday April 28 in the Waldo Funeral Chapel. Ted Hoeller, Congregation Overseer for the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witness will officiate. Burial will follow at West Hill Cemetery with Jason Carles, Ethan Carles, Adrian Frey, Shane Stonebarger, Mike Richardson, and Ronnie Frey serving as pallbearers. Brandon Carles will serve as an honorary pallbearer. Mr. Stonebarger passed away Thursday, April 24 at his home in Sherman at the age of 83.
Douglas was born on July 6, 1924 in Caddo, Okla., to Lydia Stonebarger Headrick. He was raised by his grandparents, Tom and Tealie Stonebarger and had many cousins who were just like brothers and sisters to him. He married Nellie Hodel on Aug. 6, 1945 in Durant. Stonie worked as a mechanic for Burlington Industries for 32 years and always had a strong work ethic and was a hard worker. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and gardening and could grow anything, especially his world-class tomatoes. He loved his grandchildren and the times he had with them. He was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witness and looked forward to the Resurrection following Armageddon. His favorite verses were Revelations 21:3-4, "And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God. And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away."
Mr. Stonebarger is survived by his wife of 62 years, Nellie of Sherman; daughters, Marketa Carles of Sherman, Peggy Stonebarger of Tom Bean, and Reba Frey and husband Ronnie of Tom Bean; son, Thomas Stonebarger of Sherman; grandchildren, Jason Carles, Ethan Carles, Erin Richardson, Brandon Carles, Shane Stonebarger, and Adrian Frey; great-grandchildren, Tealie Richardson, Teegan Richardson, Conan Richardson, Millie Carles, A.J. Carles, Jacob Carles, and Israel Carles; and numerous cousins.

You know, the question of the day, do I get dentures or paint the house? Always get a giggle out of that.

I always enjoyed seeing both of you, and I am so sorry to learn of your loss. My family will be praying for you and yours.
