Elizabeth R. Toward, 91, of 145 Moorehead Road in Winfield Township died at 9 a.m. Sunday at ACMH Hospital, East Franklin Township, Armstrong County. She was a patient at ACMH for only one day but has been in failing health for three years.
Born Feb. 18, 1916, in New Kensington, she was the daughter of George and Rose Dahm Patz.
She was 52-year resident of Winfield Township and previously lived in the Tarentum area. She was a 1934 graduate of St. Joseph High School and had attended business school.
Mrs. Toward was a homemaker and had been a foster parent for 16 years for Family and Children Services of Pittsburgh. She enjoyed gardening, quilting, crafts and birdwatching and made baby quilts for newborns at St. Joseph Church.
She was a member of St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, Cabot, and a life member of the Western Pennsylvania Firemen's Association Ladies Auxiliary.
Surviving are her sons, Ralph G. and R. Gary Toward, both of Winfield Township, and Ronald N. Toward of Lakeland, Fla.; seven grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. She also is survived by a brother, Ronald Patz of Brackenridge.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Russell S. Toward, who died in 1991.
TOWARD - Friends of Elizabeth R. Toward, who died Sunday, April 1, 2007, will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. today and from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the DUSTER FUNERAL HOME INC., 10th Avenue at Corbet Street, Tarentum. A Christian funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, Cabot, with the Rev. John Getsy, O.F.M. Cap., officiating. Burial will be at St. Mary of the Assumption Cemetery, Herman.
