Essie Davis Obituary

FRISCO – A life Celebration for Ms. Essie Muriel Davis, age 76, of Frisco, TX, will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday December 13, 2014 at The Trinity Lighthouse Church, located at 2915 W. Spur 503 in Denison, TX. Reverend H. Thomas Pastor of Hamilton Chapel in Frisco, will officiate, with Reverend Craig A. Davis, Sr., Pastor of Progressive Missionary Baptist Church in Sherman, as the Eulogist. Visitation will be today from 10:00 am until 6:00 pm at the Cravens Funeral Home, followed by a family night from 7:00 until 8:00 pm at Progressive. Essie Muriel, was born the twin daughter of Buck and Cynthia Colbert, on May 7, 1938, in Hennepin, Oklahoma. She received her education from the Garvin County Oklahoma schools. She was married to the late Reverend Audrey Davis, and while living in Compton, California, the two were blessed to raise eight children. Later they moved from California to Denison, Texas.

Muriel accepted Jesus Christ as her Savor at an early age. She served the Lord as an usher president, a missionary, and in various other church ministries where she was needed. She had a passion for inspiring young people. During her Christian walk, she was a member of a distinguished group of churches, such as: New Holy Trinity, New Holy Revival, Mt. Vernon Baptist , Iron Ore, Spiritual House of Deliverance, New Hope Christian Church Fellowship, and was a present member of Hamilton Chapel Church in Frisco, Texas.

Muriel was employed as a cook and worked for over 10 years at Wilson N. Jones Hospital in Sherman and 15 for B McDaniel Middle School in Denison. God blessed her to retire from both, and afterwards, she committed to help raise her grandchildren. "Momma Davis" as she was affectionately called, was known in the community for her beautiful smile as well as her hats. She never met a stranger and always loved talking on the phone, and telling people about the word of God. She loved playing cards and dominoes and spending time with her family and friends.

On Sunday Morning, December 7, 2014, Momma Davis closed her eyes and peacefully went home to be with the Lord. She was preceded in death by: her parents, her husband, son, Calvin Davis; brothers; Herman & Lee Wayne Colbert, sisters, Viola Rucker, Julia Colbert, Leola Clines, her twin Ossie Rucker; and granddaughter, Tasha Hardgrave.

Those left to cherish her precious memories are: sons; Mendez and Kevin Davis of California, Craig A. Davis, Sr. (Gwenet), and Larry Don Colbert (Teresa), of Sherman; daughter/granddaughter, Dezina Duncan (Antoine) of Frisco, Texas, and Yolanda Hardgrave of California; grandchildren; Delvon Colbert, J.J. Golstein, Johnny Young, Mendez Davis, Jr., Nashima Davis, Montasia Jones, Monique Davis, Monica Davis, and Craig Davis, Jr.; nineteen great grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren; sisters: Artreatha Haskin (Frank), Eva Thomas (L.T.), Olga Johnson and brother, Therman Colbert (DeLoise), nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly and helped raise; and a host of other relatives and friends.
