Hugh Ellis Peace

BLUE RIDGE - Funeral Services for Mr. Hugh Ellis Peace, 86 year old Blue Ridge resident, are scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday March 26 at the Grove Hill Methodist Church. Rev. Jim McIntire will officiate. Burial will be at the Blue Ridge Cemetery. Family visitation will be Tuesday March 25, 2014 from 6 until 8 p.m. at the Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Chapel at Leonard.

Mr. Peace was born January 17, 1928 at Jacksonville, Texas. His parents were George Wesley and Lavada Meltabarger Peace. He married Jane Irene Deraps June 9, 1951 at Lufkin, Texas. He was a pharmacist and owned and operated the Midway Pharmacy in North Dallas for 29 years.

After his retirement, he often helped out at the Leonard Pharmacy. He was a member of the Grove Hill Methodist Church and he served his country as a member of the United States Army. He served on the board of directors for the Fannin County electric Co-Op and for the Frognot Water Supply for many years. He was a member of the Alumni Association of the University of Texas.

He loved to golf and enjoyed golfing at the Webb Hill Country Club. He also enjoyed raising Black Angus cattle.

His is survived by his son: Douglas Peace of Blue Ridge, Texas; his daughter: Elaine Peace of Celeste, Texas; his five grandchildren: Russell, Renee, Roger, Randy and Ricky Winters; his nieces and their husbands: Katie & Bart Johnson of Denver, Colorado and Cathy and Dan Organ of Loveland, Colorado.

In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by a son, David Peace, and by his two brothers, George and William Peace, and four sisters, May Eldridge, Mary Helen McNew, Frances Campbell and Snookie Straw.

Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home of Leonard is in charge of arrangements.
