JOHN THOMPSON Obituary
Einan's Funeral Home
John passed away January 13, 2013 at Guardian Angel care facility in Richland, WA and is now in the arms of our Lord and Savior.
John was born in Pullman, WA, on April 13, 1922. His early years were spent in Pullman, Kendrick, ID, and Colfax, WA, and graduated from Colfax High School in 1940.
He entered the Navy in 1943 (WW-2) and on 5/10/1944 was commissioned Navy Aviator and instructor for flight training. In 1946, he was appointed Lieutenant First Class in the Naval Reserve. While in the Navy he received honors such as "American Area Medal" and World War II Victory Medal. He was honorably discharged on Oct. 18, 1946. John loved to fly and now has his heavenly wings.
John studied at Gonzaga University and at WSU. While completing his freshman studies at WSU, John was employed at the Boeing Aircraft Plant in Seattle, WA.
In June 1946, he started work with GE in Richland in an "Employee Relations" position and had a fine career. He would become part of Richland's early history.
In 1965, John went to work for Sherwood & Roberts, a real estate firm, and later became involved in buying and selling real estate in the Tri-Cities. He retired in about 1985.
He has been a member of many organizations over the years, which include Central United Protestant Church, Southside United Protestant Church, Kiwanis, Tri-City Country Club and Meadow Springs Country Club.
John had a broad contagious smile which could often be seen on the golf course, at a poker game or watching the stock market. We have a vision of him doing all three in heaven.
As the body grows weak, the spirit grows strong. John's strength came from the Lord and he hung onto life like a gift, yet looked forward to heaven at the same time.
He was a great father, raising a son as a single parent and offered advice with love. He gave a great example for how to live modestly and below his means and save for that rainy day.
John is survived by his son, Bill Thompson, of Richland. John was preceded in death by his parents, Hugh and Ertie Thompson, and sister Mary Elizabeth Thompson.
Bill Thompson would like to thank all the people who offered love and encouragement to him & his father, both through the years and near the end of his Dad's life.
